Gastritis related to palpitations?

32 yr old male, 5'6, 120 pounds. I have had this issue for 3 years now and don't seem to be able to find help despite seeing a fair number of doctors. It all started one day as I stood up after lunch, I felt something was off under my solar plexus and my heart started racing. I panicked and asked a colleague to take me to the ER where I had a EKG and an echo. They didn't find anything abnormal and sent me home, saying I was probably stressed. I followed up with a cardiologist, wore a Holter monitor for 24 hours, and had a regular stress test which both came out normal. It happens from time to time. I would stand and feel this weird feeling in my chest as I stand, it would mount slowly and then my heart would start beating faster and faster. I usually have to sit down (unable to stand) with a sense of panic. I am extremely pale during these episodes. Given the exams I had, my doctors say that a heart issue is unlikely. However, I still fear it is a possibility as I am easily fatigued and feel chest tightness when I do any kind of strenuous activity. Another possibility is GI issues as for some reason, I blurb a lot after these episodes and after an upper endoscopy, my GI found an ongoing gastritis. This condition is making my life impossible and I live in a constant state of stress of these symptoms occurring. I would really welcome any idea and exchange with people who had the same experience.

I agree many Drs do that....and the problem is not everyone responds to PPI's....

Make sure you follow a modified diet and lifestyle which along with meds should help you feel better.

Thanks Selma, I will check with my doctor. I feel that they always go for the easy solution: giving the PPIs...

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

Have they checked your vagus nerve? It can get impinged if you have a hiatal hernia and that can cause heart palps.....

Ask your Dr to look at that possibility.....good luck.
