If Protonix and Prilosec OTC are the same...

I've been taking Prilosec for a month now, it started helping but then stopped. Then when I went to my doctor Thursday, she switched me to Protonix. If they are basically the same, could Protonix work for me if Prilosec OTC didn't? I'd really like to know because I've had this problem for almost 3 months now and I'm tired of eating plain food.

Protonix is definitely different.  I was sick with Prilosec, but Protonix isn't making me feel sick.

Hi from what I understand protonix is an rx while prilosec is over the counter meds......
so I do believe that the protonix is stronger.I am not a dr, just going on what I do know, I know both r PPI and work much the same way.....Ur dr should be able to say y he changed ur meds...everyone is different and react to the meds differently....maybe bcuz the prilosec dtopped working instead of changing meds he should check to see y u r making so much acid.

I have noticed mine cycles....I stopped my meds to see if they were interacting and I feel much better so far....but always check with ur dr b4 doing nething with ur meds.I know these meds can get rid of acids we do need, so mayb u need a break....mayb u do not have enuff acid right now.

Did u have testing to make sure it is not ur Gall Bladder or some other issues?

Have u tried elevating ur bed, and stress releving exercises?
