Is it my GERD?

History - 39 year old male, hiatal hernia, GERD, been taking nexium for 15+ years.

Little over a year ago I started getting hives on my hands and arms. Dermatologist said looks like allergy, and allergy tests inconclusive as I reacted to everything. Allergist said I have urticaria.

Blood tests turned up low iron, low iron absorbtion, low calcium, increased spacing between red blood cells, hemoglobin normal, esr and inflammation markers are always up. Tested negative for celiac and waiting for an upper and lower scope. Have been having some butt pain, usually when I "have one on deck", with the odd random stabby pain. No blood being passed in stool.

Over the last 10 days I have had the following symptoms - crazy bloating and gas in my stomach middle bottom ribcage to slight left - at times feels like my burps trapped - nausea, lower than normal appetite, and a taste in my mouth similar to when you have a very mild flu. Also passing gas.

Does this sound GERD related? IBS? Anyone ever experience this? Starting to worry about stuff like stomach or pancreatic cancer.

Good luck with your pending testing on Tuesday.....

Have you tried keeping a journal with symptoms you have as well as foods you eat to see if they flare after certain foods/?

On diovan for mild hypertension, and claratine for hives that I got for unknown reasons. The allergist could not find out what I was allergic to so he said I just have urticaria.

One thing to add, for the last week now in addition to the symptoms above, I've been getting bloating on the right side about 1-2 inches under my chest. Feels like I have a golf ball in there, and a burning pain across the mid to upper right side of my back. I'm paranoid that I have pancreatic cancer or something serious.

Have an xray and ultrasound this coming Tuesday and nod upper me lower scope happening in 2 weeks. The scopes were booked before this recent episode to try to find the cause of my low iron.

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

It sounds like the meds worked for you for at least 14 yrs....the last yr symptoms started up again....could be a couple of things....
1- the meds no longer work for you and you may want to try a different med.
2- there was a change to diet, weight or stress levels....this can cause a flare while on meds....

These meds can cause mal absorption of certain minerals and vitamins....so do keep getting blood levels checked by your Dr.......supplements may be an option.....

Are you on any other meds?
