Is this GERD, or something else?

Hello,

For a couple months now, I have been experiencing random shortness of breath, chest tightness/heaviness, and throat tightness.  The shortness of breath seems to get worse when I lay down.  I have had several EKGs, an echocardiogram, and a chest X-ray done; my heart is completely fine.  Could this be caused by allergies?  GERD?

Thank you!

I have GERD and have the throat tightening/feeling of lump in my throat.  My doctor put me on Flexeril which is a muscle spasm relaxer and when I feel my throat tightening, I take one pill before I go to bed and when I wake up, my throat is fine.  This may very well help you as well.

Hi bkw212007,
It could be due to bronchospasm or GERD.
A  24 hours pH monitoring will help to know whether GERD is present or not.
Sometimes severe GERD itself can cause bronchospasm.
