Just diagnosed with GERD-lots of questions!

Hi! I had to get an upper GI this morning due to some nausea last week (my doctor was being extra careful.) They just called me and said it looked good except that I had a small amount of reflux. They said they may want to put me on medication for it, but I have to follow up.

I would have never believed them...I have never even felt heartburn. I guess I sometimes have very mild stomach aches and a little gas. Does this really warrant getting on a daily medication? What are the long term effects? Is this a dangerous illness to have, as far as progressing to something very serious, or do most people live with it very easily?

Any help would be appreciated. I am so bummed about it!

There is a condition Larangopharyngeal reflux it is also know as silent reflux as u may not experience what most expect to feel with reflux...heartburn.U do need to get on meds especiallly for something like this as the acid can cause damage to the esophagus..and the meds can help heal it.The sooner u address it with meds and diet and life style modifications the better.

Stress and weight changes can cause a flare up, as well as what u eat or drink....do look at the Health Pages for tips on diet modifications that can help u feel better.
