I am in the same exact boat. I've been taking Protonix for 7 months or so and I'm having popping everywhere. I recently have had bad pain in neck and shoulder blade. Am seeing chiropractor but thought about my meds and tried going to an over-the-counter antacid. In two days my pain has gone down 50%. I'm still trying to figure it out, but I'm with you. Let's explore this.
Magnesium deficiency is the newest warning out for PPI's such as nexium.
Symptoms of magnesium deficiency are numerous but include bones going out of alignment. Bones out of alignment can cause cracking or popping. Magnesium deficiency is easy to miss as only 1% of magnesium is in the blood and 0.3% is in blood serum.

I'm not a health professional, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
Cracking sounds of joints and cracking of bones are two different issues. I'm assuming you are getting lab reports that check your vitamin/mineral levels, they are very accurate. Also, how you take a PPI drug like Nexium is very important, be sure to check the instructions and take them exactly as prescribed. Keep us informed.
I would say "no way" too.
The crepitus=popping of your joints and the herniated disk are related to something else; not the Nexium.
Hi...many of the meds for GERD/acid reflux deplete our system of the vitamins and minerals we need....they can also make it difficult to absorb them in a natural way or by supplementation.....
But, u should be looking to ur PCP to do blood labs to make sure all levels r where they need to be.
Magnesium and vit D go hand in hand and many times the drs will say vit d is low but not too many will say u also need the magnesium....
So ask what dose might be good for u to add....u will see a difference....as it is good for muscle and bone health....
