Nissan with Pyloroplasty

In Dec. 2006 I had a Nissan where the surgeon accidentally cut the Vegas Nerve and has left me with severe gas and bloating and dumping. I take an Rx for the dumping and it works some of the tme, but you still need to know where a restroom is all the time. The surgery also failed and had to be redone this past month. The discharge and post op instructions were totally different from one to two. In the first one I had no restrictions and all I had to do to be released after 4 days was drink a Ginger Ale. With the redo I was given a very restricted diet that graduated week by week. I am now 4 weeks out having the soft mechanical diet and no carbonated drinks. Why so different? The first Dr. told me I was a whimp (3 times) and to just get over it and that at my age it would take awhile to heal. The gas and dumping are still a problem. The gas pains are bad and the gas itself is enough to make me sick. Any suggestions?

Hi sooz11305,
Since the two surgeries were different, the post op instructions were also different.

The symptoms of dumping syndrome may improve on its own or by dietary modification.
Frequent small meals  containing fat, protein and complex carbohydrates should be taken. Simple sugars should be avoided. Fluid intake should be restricted and separated from solid intake. Bananas and oranges may help in relieving some of the symptoms.

In severe cases, medications and surgery may be tried. The pyloroplasty done for you is in fact done for relieving your symptoms of dumping syndrome.
