Having had a couple of esophageal motility tests done, and as a former smoker, I can imagine that smoking would indeed hinder the normal healing processes.  The motility test is invasive, as you know, and probably really irritates all the tissues involved.

I quit smoking pimp sticks about ten years ago, but smoking caused all sorts of trouble with my heart and my esophagus, I urge you to consider quitting.

And I forgot to add that yes I do need to quit these cigarettes sadly I chewed snuff about 4 months ago before I was diagnosed with GERD and I do have a mild case of esophagitis and cold not stand having chew in my mouth so I changed over to smoking which I regret. The motility test was done because I cannot get solid foods to pass down smoothly and have been living on a malt o meal liquid diet for the past 4 months.
