acid reflux and gallbladder

37 year old female with spasms just below breast bone that extend right through to my back between shoulder blades, bloating, some regurgitaion, very sensitive to fatty foods, caffeine and alcohol, burping sometimes provides relief-stomach feels like it is on fire- room temperature water helps a little-feels like I have a lump in my throat or a slight spasm in my throat on right side

have tried Zantac, Prevacid, Domperidone, Pepcid and a few others in the past 17 years that I have been dealing with this- my symptoms are getting worse the older I get

I am scheduled for another barium swallow but would like to know if I should be asking about my gallbladder since my doctor hasn't mentioned it? Are acid reflux and gallbladder attacks linked?

Hi red475,
Acid reflux and gall bladder reflux are not related.
Most of the symptoms you have mentioned can be caused by poor functioning of gall bladder and symptoms like lump in the throat is mostly functional though stickiness like feeling can occur in GERD.

HIDA scan is to assess the functioning of gall bladder and EF  stands for ejection fraction which quantifies the function of gall bladder.

Normal gall bladder ejection fraction is greater than 50% . Ejection fractions less than 30% are abnormal. EF of 30-50% are equivocal.

You need to discuss with your doctor about the possibility of gall bladder problem.

Hi! I can't wait to see the answer to your question because I have been dealing with much the same symptoms. My intestines are burning. I had an EGD because of chest pain and shoulder blade pain. It showed I had esophagitis but I have never really felt reflux, just pain. I had a hida scan a year ago. My EF was 34.5% (a little low). They don't seem to want to do anything about it. I have also had the feeling of something stuck in my throat which burping relieves but it comes right back. Let me know what you find out.

Hi! I'm glad to hear from someone who shares the same symptoms- not glad that you are uncomfortable though.

I have taken so many things out of my diet that it's getting hard to even enjoy eating.

What is a "hidascan"? and what is EF? I'm not familiar with these terms.
I am currently waiting to hear back from all of my blood work that I had done on Feb 11 and cannot get in for a Barium Swallow until June!

When you are having pain in the chest area, does it take your breathe away and feel like it could be a heart attack? I usually get my husband to pound on my back when this happens-sometimes it gives a little relief.

Take care,
