chronic sore throat, sore tongue and indigestion

I've had a very sore throat for more than 5 weeks now.  My tongue is also sore. My throat is frequently making squishing, gurgling and bubbling noises.  There is always the sensation that something is stuck in my throat.  I feel indigestion and discomfort after meals.  I'm very worried that it can be soemthing really serious.  I was diagnosed with acid reflux in 2008 when I had a slight sore throat that didn't go away and was prescribed with omeprazole.  But this time the sore throat and indigestions is many times worse than what I experienced now.  I feel quite unwell and have difficulty sleeping.  My stomach is also making a lot of weired noises.  I had my gall bladder removed in August last year.  I took a long time to recover from the surgery.  I had Graves' Disease but am now euthyroid and not on medication for almost 1 and a half years.

My GP prescribed omeprazole one tablet daily but I've been taking 2 tabs because one tab doesn't seem to be doing the job.  I felt it should be a problem because the ENT doc who prescribed omeprazole in 2008 had in fact asked me to take 2 tabs daily.

I'm really worried about my condition.  Pls help.

Had my endoscopy yesterday morning.  The gastroenterologist said everything was ok but if I continued to suffer the symptoms for the next couple of weeks, I should go and see him at his office.   He took some biopsies of my "antral, small bowel, and dissacs".  Don't know what they are.  Will have to go back and see my GP in about 10 days' tim.

I'm still continuing with my diet modification and lifestyle changes.  I'm no longer drinking caffeinated tea.  Have been drinking Dandelion tea with honey.  I think that helps.  Will continue with taking omeprazole until the sore throat and the other symptoms have disappeared completely.  Best to take omeprazole half or one hour before food.

Thanks for your support.  It is really comforting to be able to discuss with someone about my health problem.  Bye for now.

Hi there,

It is good that you have a scheduled Endoscopy as that would enable the GI doc to determine the cause of your Gerd and check for any signs of stricture, Barrets and/or H.Pylori.

GERD is a very common, but complicated issue.  I don't like to refer to it as being a disease as the word "disease"makes you worry more than what is necessary :)

We look forward to hearing from you after you've had the Endoscopy and some info from GI doc.

All the best for Tuesday!

Thanks for your reply. No I have not been tested for H Pylori.  My GP referred me to a gastro.   I'll be having an endoscopy next Tuesday.  I'm really worried that it could be something very serious.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything will be all right with the right  medication.

I have modified my diet, eat very small meals throughout the day (I'm already quite thin), and even raise each of the front legs of my bed with bricks.  I'm really concerned that after almost 3 weeks of medication, the sore throat, sore tongue  and sensation of food stuck in my throat are still there.

It is so frightening to not know what is going on inside your body.    Keep your fingers crossed for me.  Thanks.

Hi were u tested for H.Pylori? That should be ruled out, and may take several tests to do....not sure y, but it does not always show up...my dad had several tests b4 it showed....

Also, have u modified ur diet and lifesyle? It is important, meds alone can not help if u continue to eat in an unhealthy manor or have too much stress....u need to be pro active about these issues.

Go back to the ENT or a GI Dr a GP is not the right Dr for this issue.
