gerd and gallstones

My doc says I have gallstones without inflammation.  Does gerd lead to gallstones or vica versa?  It is good to know what has been causing the discomfort.

GERD is a mechanical issue: the LES won't shut right for one reason or another (hiatal hernia, weight from the stomach causing it to stay open, general weakness of the area, etc). Gallstones are just that: stones in the gallbladder. One doesn't cause the other. However, removing the gallbladder can in some cases help alleviate and improve GERD symptoms. In some, however, it makes it worse, at least for a short while.
