had gerd for 5 years

I was diagnosed with GERD 5 years ago. It starte out as a really burning painful sensation. After a month of going to the er they told me i had h pylori. I took the treatment but have never got rid of the burning sensation. About 2 months ago I finally had an endoscopy done and was told I had a hietal hernia and a mild case of gerd with esophagitis. How can you have a mild case of GERD if you have it all the time, how is that possible? I dont feel like its a mild case since i have it everyday despite the medication I am on now. Does any one have the same symptoms, I spend every day worrying that im never going to be the same ever again.

I have wrestled with identical symptoms. For several years. I tried every acid reducing drug. Finally I stopped all the combinations of pills and took 300 mg Zantac twice a day and got immediate relief. Let me caution people here: everyone reacts to all the slight variations in all these acid reducing medications differently, and you have to go on a long exhaustive search for just the right one for you in just the right dosage then talk to your doctor about what you are finding relief from. Also, you could try Nux Vomica a homeopathic remedy, 9 pellets a day.

Thanks Selma I am taking Kapidex 60mg, I was taking previously prev acid once in the morning and once at night didnt work, then I wnt with Protonix, Kapidex is supposed to be a new med but doesnt seem to work. the dr says I may have a very sensitive esophagus that is why I feel everthing all the time. Is there such a thing as having a sensitive esopahgus that feels everything without the damage? because it feels like something is definitely wrong inside of me, Its been 2 1/2 months now and it seems like i get better for a few days and then all of sudden im back to phase 1 my dr says that nothing is wrong with me just slight esophagitis but it feels like something else.

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

I am not positive, but I think that mild refers to damage that could occur from having it......so u have mild GERD....but bcuz it has just been addressed u will feel the effects constantly until u get it under control....also being mild is a good thing...it should be easier to calm down with meds and hopefully heal ne damage.

What meds were u rx'd?

Did ur dr also tell u of foods to avoid and lifestyle changes that will aid the meds to calm ur GERD?
