pain and burning right retrosternal and back

I was DX with Barretts 5 years ago. Two EGD's show no changes in the cells. I also have had pain and burning in my right retrosternal area and grinding pain in my back under my right scapula for years. The pain has been getting worse but CT scans are negative despite recently a serum amylase of 633. My Gastroenterologist says surgery (cholecystectomy), is not warrented since the CT scans are negative. What is causing the elevated amylase? CT scan shows no pancreas abnmormality. EGD just yesterday shows no ulcers. He has just taken me off the nexum, lipitor and azor. No ETOH, no NSAIDS etc. Every time I eat I have this pain. It is driving me crazy. I had been taking ibuprofin for the pain.
