Hi Lena

Just wondering whether you have had the reversal as my boyfriend is going for the reversal next week and I am not sure how bad he will be after this operation.
His symptoms are terrible now, he can barely swallow, but before this operation he was sick 10 times a day. Just don't no what is best and have no idea what state he will be in after the reversal.

Any info is kindly accepted :)

Many thanks
Emily

Hi there,

I read your post and I can feel your frustration, but PLEASE don't give up.

If I were in your situation:  I would find a very good Gastro Enterologist and NOT go back to the original Surgeon that did the op, etc.  Start by having a new Endoscopy done and Manomatric study (that would measure motility and the new LES function, etc.) and take it from there.

I can only imagine that having to live like this can make any strong person depressed and if you need to take a anti-depro for now, then you take it, but take BACK the control of your live and get help from a GASTRO ENT for your Gastro-related problems.

All the best and let us know how you are doing.

Dear SelmaS

I read your letter and complain and your story is very very sad indeed
I myself had an operation of nissen fundoplication for much simpler reason than yours and up till now I have no idea why I signed for it I just had few
episodes of discomfort and sore throat and I was told that I have a reflux
disease , I took PPI for it and did not help so I had the operation of Nissen about year and a half ago, then I felt worse
I lost weight and gas, bloating and all discomfort so I went to the Univesity
hospital of UCLA and had it reversed, they took the wrap and the surgeon
said that it is in my best interest not to play behind the esophagus otherwise my swallowing will be terrible and today is my post operative day 12
,
I tell you I feel lousy, I can only take liquid and may be it is too early,
I am a physician and I am hoping for the best

You seem to be suffering from GASTROPARESIS and the treatment for it
is by try using
Motilium or it is called Domperidone before food and it works
or may be use some Reglan and it will help
let me know

thank you, I swear to GOd that my life before the surgery was worth living, no it is really unbearable, I will include the page that I wrote about all the pains and symptoms, reflux I could cope with, with omezaprul etc but this is much much worse, should you know of anybody who could help, please please bear me in mind as I am really desperatehing
the worst is that from being active for work and life I am unable to do anything now

Hi I am one of those very very unfortunates who had full Nissan fundoplication and partial antrectomy of the stomach with anaestomoses, selective proximal vagotomy in the area of ezofagialni hiatus – open surgery – two years ago  with terrible, terrible consequences, before I had reflux – but that could be controlled with tablets- and was uncomfortable BUT I COULD LIVE WITH THAT. Had I known and researched before the op. I would have NEVER NEVER undergone the op. I have suffered since than like NEVER before.. After the operation I developed cholecystolithiases and had to have my gall bladder removed. So I am in my second year, I lost work due to the pain and discomfort – bloateness, nausea, dry heaves – very painfull, at night stomach cramps , fullness of the stomach (even if I do not eat before I go to bed) with foam in my mouth when I wake up – usually I lie awake in pain throughout the night. I was so DESPERATE I asked for the wrap to be undone, they did it BUT it did not reliéve any symptoms, I STILL can not vomit even if I get cold sweat and all the symptom sof pre-vomit but when I get up I just have uncontrollable fit of burps and heaves but nothing.  I constantly burp and it is very painful. I am desperate to have FULL reversal with all the stitches being UNDONE. I have been feeling so unwell all the time that life is REALLY NOT worth living, from a girl with lots of interests, academic background, avid reader and full of vitality for life incl gentle exercise and sport of all kinds I ended up being WRECK that spends most of her time indoors, on the toilet with cramps and in terrible pain with not knowing who and where to turn to. I am also FULLY dependent on my parents as I can no longer look after myself. From working full time as an English lector – teaching children, adults, preparing for the state exams, local exams, translator of legal documents, books, internet web pages, co-author of English textbooks etc etc I ended up on FULL disability pension(which is only 180 EUROS - 5000 Czech Crowns a month )   I can no longer socialize, can not go for a drink and stopped going out altogether.  I contacted several hospitals in the Czech republic but being sent from one clinic to another. Gastroscopy shows “Normal” results after the operation – with the afteraffects of the surgery - . X ray after drinking the liquid shows I nearly completely LOST all the motility of the stomach and it does not contract and moves so the food and liquid just sits there.  Traveling to hospitals is also a strain due to the discomfort and pain. I have been SO desperate that I bought gastro-tubes and insert them through the nostrils, which is very painfull, to at least let out “some” terrible gastric juices that I have lying in the top of my stomach, it does not help however as  it is not very effective and one never manages to “empty” the stomach if feeling sick. Due to the pain I went several times to the Emergency but they only gave me injection and turn me away with “again” the referral to psycho. It is all very distressing as the nausea is nothing to do with the mental state. This is worse throughout the night as it keeps me awake. My family and friends can not believe how downhill I went over the last year or so – neither do I. PLEASE ANYONE advice or help. Also I was of course sent to psycho-asylum, which I underwent on the request of my family with NO NO positive results whatso ever. Just a record on my medical record. I am SO desperate that I would spend all my savings, and even get a loan to get the FULL NISSAN Reversal as I can not live like that. THANK YOU

Hi...I did post a reply to ur other thread with he same question...do see ur surgeon or GI dr from the original surgery to see if it is possible that u may have other issues going on like H.Pylori or Gall Bladder issues...and if iti si possible to have a reversal if everything else is fine...but do be sure u do not have something else causing it...as I am sure ur reflux prior to surgery was severe in order for u to have the surgery to begin with.
