What is a gallbladder attack like

Yesterday I had some stabbing pains below my ribs on the far right side. Then it subsided. Later in the day it felt like a sharp needle being repeatedly stabbed into my abdomen in the same area. Then it passed. It was awful while it lasted but not agony. I was thinking if it got worse I may have to go to ER.
Now today it is gone.
Is it likely to come back soon if it is a gallbladder attack? I have been told that according to an ultrasound and then a CT scan for something unrelated that my gallbladder is packed with gallstones.
Does it really disappear like that or should I brace myself for more in the next couple of days including today?

In my experience it can disappear and remain dormant for minutes, weeks, and in my case years. It can come on terribly painful and then go away very fast.  For me, if I eat something high in fat content I am more likely to have an attack versus a low fat item.  But I've been really lucky and symptom free no matter what I eat for a few years now and I, too, have tons of stones and history of major gallbladder "attacks" which looking back were ER worthy.
