Rectal Carcinoid

I am undergoing very slow, frustrating, round about testing to discover the cause of headaches, sweating and chronic non infectious watery diarrhea. I had a colonoscopy a couple years back. All I remember was that dr. said he removed one tiny rectal polyp which was he said was benign. My question is whether a suspected rectal carcinoid tumor would be easily identified by just looking at it or would it require suspicion and special pathology biopsy tests to confirm or rule out a carcinoid.

A couple of weeks ago I had a colonoscopy and the doctor removed a rectum polyp he told us and sent it with some other tissues for biopsy and the polyp came back to be a carcinoid tumor, now they are having to go back in to make sure they got it all.  I am also having to go through more testing to make sure I have no more carcinoid tumors.

Have your doctors perform a 5 Hiaa urine test. this will tell you if you have carcinoid tumor or a tumor on your adrinaline glands. These tumors can cause you to have headaches and sweat.

Rectal polyps are typically not assoicated with carcinoid problems. But if it were, it would have to be looked at pathologically to determine whether or not it was benign or other.
