Squish/air sound right under left rib cage...

I have been having a host of GI problems since January, and now I have this weird squish noise coming out of right below where my left rib cage ends. I'm scheduled for a full colonoscopy AND an endoscopy at the beginning of May.

Has anyone ever heard of this? It feels like there's a hallow balloon or something there that makes squishy, farty sound when I push on it or inhale deeply. It doesn't hurt.

This what both of you probably have is called - splenic flexure syndrome. Gas builds in the part of the colon near the spleen - in the splenic flexure. This usually occurs in IBS.

The basic problem is gas itself. Gas can be avoided by eliminating foods that produce gas. Which foods to exclude - this may vary a lot from person to person, but two simple diet trials may be tried:

- 4 days lactose free diet. In lactose intolerance always some gas is produced by colonic bacteria.
- 4 days low.fructose diet. In fructose malabsorption fructose (and sorbitol) trigger about the same symptoms as lactose.

If above doesn't help you can try with complete fasting for few days and then reintroducing foods that won't likely produce gas - one food at a time. This should usually be done under doctors supervision.

to be precise mine also happens right below the end of my  left rib cage and which  has really loud sound when i try to do the inhale/exhale stuff...i got scared at first u know coz its like a monster inside my tummy..

i have chronic gastritis (erosive) so ive been on meds for 4 months but i decided to stop this month coz my tummy feels ok but every now and then i have what youre feelin..when i told my dr about it she said just apply hot bag on the tummy coz it helps   and so i did  and its working...
my bowel movements ok too and just like you i am not allowed to eat spicy, fried stuff chocolates ..also acidic drinks so basically cant eat what i want to eat..

just apply any hot compress on your tummy..if u have the electric thingy or anything better since you dont have to boil water and put in a bag like what i do..^_^

hot bag? ....can you tell me more about this?

...the bowel movements have been normal for months...maybe a mild IBS that only causes gas?

as of now I can eat pretty much anything (besides spicy stuff to avoid reflux/heartburn) without constipation or diarrhea.

any other ideas...

thanks again

Heart actuall lies just above the stomach and colon, so maybe palpitations are triggered by pressure from gas.

For gastritis/duodenitis be sure to have a test for H. pylor that may be the cause.

Combunation of constipation and diarrhea, especially if symptoms appear after the meal are characteristic for the so called IBS. IBS means that your colon is irritated by stress and certain foods. Try to find out if elimination of some foods from diet helps you.

Suggestion: have a 4-day low-fructose diet: no fruits or any food containing fructose, sorbitol or HFCS.

thanks boron... previous to this I had some issues with gastritis and esophagitis, along with some constipation/diarrhea type changes in bowel habits.

the bowel movements are normal now, and have been for quite some time.

but as of now I have lots of pressure in the chest and palpitations (had all the heart tests done and they say everything's normal)

i'm still dealing w/ a bit of heartburn though....and the "noisy gas" under the ribs.

thanks

That is obviously gas in the horisontal part of the colon that runs there.

Avoid being constipated and avoid foods and drinks that produce gas: high-fibree foods, simple sugars, dairy...

You can have some 4 days diet trials:
- low fructose diet
- lactose free diet
- low-fibre diet (but beware getting constipated)

You can also exclude any other food by your intuition for few days to see if it helps.

What were your other problems?
