after diverticulitis

I am a 41 year old woman whowas hospitalized for diverticulitis about 3 months ago.  After antibiotics, bowel rest and iv fluids, it went away.  I am going to have a colonoscopy this summer as a follow up.  Since then, I have had three different episodes of discomfort and the feeling that I need to have a bowel movement, but can't...or having many, many small bowel movements for a 24 hour period.  I have never had this problem before.  each time that happened, I was sure I was headed down the same path of diverticulitis...but by the next day, things were back to normal.  Is this typical for someone with diverticulosis?  Could the diverticulitis have caused some other problem like IBS?

Thanks for any insight/ideas...

Hi how is it going now.  I have had two courses of antibiotics  2 Ct scan one an attack and one clear and a colonoscopy. And I'm 9 weeks out and still have twinges when the bm moves through my sigmoid colon.   I'm also 53 female.

I am 53 with the first year of suffering diverticular attacks, one hit, stopped, two weeks later, another, stopped; two weeks later another.  I think it was all one big attack but it would settle down in between attacks.  I believe I have had a low level inflammation for quite awhile, even though it didn't seem to be my bowels.  I was suffering arthrtic like pain in my back and knees and hips, that cleared with 3 courses of cipro and two courses of flagyl.  The arthritis cleared with the diverticulitis, so if anyone is suffering like this your bowel is throwing stuff into your system that is attacking your joints.  I haven't had another attack, but I have seen a surgeon and I can sign on the dotted line for my surgery anytime I am ready.  I take miralax every day to keep from straining and watch what I eat.  I don't know if I will make it without surgery, I still feel a twinge in my sigmoid every now and then to remind me of the presence of this disease.
