12 yr old has Pneumonia, Constant Stomach Pains, and now has ENT issues HELP!

My 12 year old son is experiencing terrible stomach pains after
being diagnosed with pneumonia 2 weeks ago. His doctor took some
blood and said to wait but the pain is severe!!!

Should I consult a Specialist? What kind. His lungs are fine.

These are the things that concern me the most-

1. He's been sleeping soooooo much. A growth spurt? Or connected to what's been going on with his health issues? Today he woke up after 11:00 and was back to sleep at 2:30 - woke him for dinner around 6:00. Not normal and sooooo not like him. YOU know he stays up late and sleeps in - but NEVER a napper. He's napped every day during vacation.

2. He's the kind of kid who's on the phone with another friend making plans before the kid he's playing with at the moment is even gone. He didn't ask for ONE playdate this week.
3. Appetite. While he didn't lose any weight between his last two doctor's appointments, he's just not eating like Ryan. He barely ate lunch today, didn't snack, and I could only talk him into three bites of steak and a mouthful of green bean casseerole (one of his favorites) before he wanted to go BACK to bed.

I know he could still be tired from the pneumonia, but this much? And everything else? What's up with the stomach pain?

Could use some good practical advise on this. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...and remember, pneumonia is a very serious infection. Your son probably has post-viral fatigue. He will be tired and not himself for up to 6 months.

My 5 year old has had 4 episodes of pneumonia in the last 11 months...ALWAYS  the main symptom is the pain. We took him to the ER in the first place because of the pain and not the cough, actually!

Don't worry...sounds like the pneumonia is ppresenting very low in the lung and he feels stomach pain from the base of his diaphragm the way my son did/does.

Also some kids get a lot of pain from the lymph nodes (immune system glands) at the top of the stomach when they are swollen and fighting off infection. The syndrome is called MESENTERIC ADENITIS. it oftenm presents the first time in severe infections like pneumonia and is often mistaken for appendicitis, so that's how bad the pain really is.

Very common....the pain will pass when your son's pneumonia is under control. Is he on Azithromax?

He could be having a reaction to his meds that they gave him for his pneumonia also. It kinda sounds like that. You need to call the pharmacy and ask them if the medicine he's on could cause stomach pain etc. You could look it up on the web also. I know alot of those meds are strong and can cause alot of stomach problems along with other things like being lethlargic. SO I would either look that up or take him back to the doctor. Hope he gets better soon.
