15 year old w/upper rt quad abdominal pain

Early this year, my daughter had two episodes of what we thought was food poisoning, but after the last two months, we think they may have been short bouts of what she has now been experiencing for over two months.  Okay, so here's what's gone on so far.

9/17/08: My daughter gets sick, we thought she had food poisoning. Abdominal pain, loose stool, nausea, fever and vomiting.

9/23/08: Went to ER, due to blood in stool.  CT of Abdomen was done, results - normal.  Blood was found in her stool, no hemorrhoids found.

09/24-26/08: Multiple Normal Stool and blood test run, all negative, including Celiac Spore.

9/25/08: PCP Schedules a consult with an internist; Dr O, who concurs with the need for a Colonoscopy and an EGD, it is scheduled.

Results: Colonoscopy is normal, EGD shows the Peptic Duodenopathy and Intraepithelial Lymphocytosis

Internist referred us to Pediatric Gastro, Dr Z.

10/23 We see Dr Z, who orders test for C Diff and H Pylori, gives my daughter 2 week PrevPac to take at home (Prevacid, Biaxin and Amoxcicillian)

11/13/08: My daughter was admitted to the hospital, due to uncontrollable abdominal pain. Running low grade temps @ night with headaches and nausea. (2 Lortab 5's at home every 6 hrs were not helping.)  They did a CT of the Abdomen, with Contrast to R/O Appendicitis, the CT was Normal, except for signs of Fatty Liver beginning. **Still Running low grade temp @ night w/headaches and nausea. Hospital Dr administers Zofran and my daughter falls asleep.

11/14/08: Nuclear Hepatobiliary Scan of Abdomen, showed Flow in Gallbladder at 25%, (35%-40% is the low norm).  By evening, 2 mg Morphine is given in addition to Zofran, Morphine every 3 hours/Zofran every 6 hours. C Diff and H Pylori results come in - both are negative.

11/16/08: Upper GI w/Contrast results - all results within the normal parameters.

11/17/08: Sonogram of Gallbladder, Liver and Pancreas and Rt Kidney are all Normal   Bailie was a bit yellow in the face, but the Bilirubin was normal, they also did a CRP and a CBC, which were both high, but not exponentially so.  So she has inflammation.  ANA and Rh Factor drawn, results in 2-3 days.

11/18/08: Repeat EGD Scheduled, no biopsy was taken on first EGD.

11/19/08: EGD preliminary findings are of a white band of tissue at the lower end of the duodenum, near the small intestine, which was biopsied.  We are now waiting on duodenum's biopsy results, but being discharged today.  Resident says that if nothing comes up from duodenal biopsies, we will need to consult w/an adult surgeon to see if he wants to remove the gallbladder with the possibility of repeating tests in one month.

She is still having pain, but hates the hospital and will do anything to go home.  Does anyone else have any experience with this type of pain with a teenage girl?  And what was the outcome? I would appreciate any feedback.

Yes that pesky organ can cause major issues. If all these problems were caused by a sick gall bladder, she will begin to feel better after recovering from the surgery. Good luck!

Well, at 4 this morning we found out what was wrong.  She started getting uncontrollably sick, we went to our PCP, who immediately got us over to the surgeon, who removed her Gallbladder art 1:20 this afternoon.

That little tiny organ sure can cause a heap of trouble!
