20 years old, constant constipation, begging for help!

hi im a 20 year old male college student. For about a year now i have been suffering constant constipation. I have tried everything(enema, stool softener, high fiber diet, magnesium) I am just trying to live a normal life where I don't feel sick to my stomach and have zero energy all the time. These are big years in my life where i feel like I am no able to take advantage of. With classes I don't have time to come home for doctors appointments more than once a month.  I usually go up to 5 days without a stool. Please I am begging for someone to lead me in the right direction. - JB

Hello, from reading your symptoms of constant constipation and no energy, it sounds to me like there is a good possibility that you may have a thyroid problem. Go to your doctor, explain your symptoms and ask to have your thyroid checked. A thyroid panel is a very simple blood test with an easy diagnosis. If it turns out that you do have hypothyroidism, all you will have to do is take a thyroid replacement hormone such as synthroid, and you will feel better within a few weeks. I am a RN who suffers from hypothyroidism, and from my knowledge and experience, it sounds a lot like hypothyroidism. Good luck, I hope you figure it out!

Water is always a good idea. Smooth Move tea does work, but can cause cramps and is probably not good for long term use. I would try Metamucil or Citrucell or Miralax. Theyre all powders you mix with water or juice (most grocery stores stock these). You might need to take the stuff twice a day, but they are gentle and safe to use every day. Don't forget to eat lots of fruits and veggies and stay away from white flour products as much as possible (pizza is the worst for me).....Good luck!!!!

Get this tea called Smooth Move.  You will find it in the tea/organic tea section.  It has helped all my friends who have similar problem.  I know it sounds too simple, but sometimes the simple works best.  Oh, they drink it every night and usually by morning, they have a BM.  Goodluck

Have you tried drinking at least eight glasses of water a day?
