Miralax is safe and widely used by pediatricians, and is not habit forming. She should have been taken to see a pediatric gastroenterologist for this. They would have prescribed something to get ALL of the impacted stool out of her and then kept her on Miralax to keep this from happening again. When a child has stool impaction the other stool can remain is a semi-solid form, even liquid as it goes around the impaced stool. Then due to it's form it can just leak out without the child being aware. I would keep her on the Miralax and get her in to see a Ped. Gastroenterolgist for an evaluation. I know it's worrisome and frustrating for both of you, but a GI specialist will get right to the problem. Take care.
