Abdominal Pain/Rectal Bleeding

Hi,

I am a 23 year old male in generally good health. Within the last year i started getting anal itching that hasnt gone away and was given a cream that controls the itching. Recently I started developing a pain in my lower left abdomen. I was put on antibiotics for a week but this did nothing. The pain is generally worse while lying down and slowly seems to be going away, although from time to time now i feel minor pain in my lower back as well. My doctor ran blood/urine tests that came back normal and isnt really sure what is causing the pain. Although the abdominal pain seems to be going away, my rectum seems to be quite irritated recently. Everything seems "tight" and hard around the rectum. My stools have been much softer than usual and a lighter color. There also seems to be a tiny piece of tissue at the bottom of my rectum that wasnt there before. Now last night after consuming only 2 drinks of alcohol and going to the washroom there was a considerable amount of bright red blood at the end of the stool. Does anyone know what this could be? i should mention i have no family history of colon cancer however that doesnt stop me from worrying.

Thanks.

Blood in the stool ALWAYS requires further investigation. It could be something quite simple like haemmorhoids, but needs checking out.
Take care,
Liz.

This could have something to do with your diet or it could be something like IBS or IBD. Blood in stools can be a problem if there is too much of it, but the alcohol can cause what you mentioned. While you aren't feeling great, I strongly suggest staying away from alcohol. Pretend it is acid that will cause more pain and bleeding. You might want to see a neautritionist about your diet. Perhaps certain foods cause the pain that you aren't aware of. Also ask about Celiac Disease. It can cause these things and it is easy to solve with dietary changes.
