Where exactly is the pain?
Nausea, hearburn, burping?
Diarrhea, constipation, bloating?
The pain is usually behind her navel sometimes radiating to the sides. Occasionally accompanied by nausea. No heartburn, but she does get some relief when she burps. Nexium has been prescribed off and on for her, but sometimes seems to cause nausea. Bowel movements are normal, no diarrhea, constipation, or bloating. Any thoughts? Would a food allergy test be of any value?
If burping helps, it means gas is building in her stomach. Gas may be produced by H. pylori bacteria or maybe just from fod staying in the stomach for a long time.
She might want to have:
1. H. pylori test, and if this will be negative...
2. ...Gastric emptying test
3. Hydrogen breath test for fructose malabsorption. Prior to this test, a low-fructose diet can be tried for 2 days to see if it helps.
She had been prescribed Reglan at one point which I beleve is supposed to help empty the stomach more efficiently. It seemed to help, but make her very tired and depressed. She has an appointment with a new GI in 2 weeks. I will definately ask about the tests you have suggested and have her try limiting her fructose in the interium. Thank you for the information!
