I sympathize with your pain. I too have very severe pain right below my sternum that hurts up into the right side of my neck and jaw. Had gb removed 9/07 hasn't changed anything. The pains are recurrent, never know when it'll start. Not food related. No nausea, diarhea, or vomiting. Let me know if you find out what this is. Ok?
Thanks and good luck.

Is it tender to the touch?  I have pain right below my sternum that can be tender to the touch.  I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and when it causes me problems I have pain there, in my chest, left shoulder, left arm and back.  If I didn't have cardiac workups I would think I was having a heart attack.  Digestive disorders can be very painful, I also had my gallbladder out, but unfortunately it doesn't cure everything.  I thought at first I was going to be great but within a few months the pain has returned.  Good luck to you.

My husband had gallbladder out because of gallstones,We thought this would be the end of it.Six months later after passing out with pain in side and back they removed 5 large gallstonesThese were new stones not left from the operation..He just returned from having two more remove and more will be taken when he is stronger(82 years old).If you have any signs of jaundice get to your doctor or the ER as soon as possible. This can be a sign the liver is in trouble.

I have been having such severe pain in the same spot and it radiates into my chest and all the way to my back.  At first i thought it was an anxiety attack.  The last time it was so severe that I went to the ER cuz I thought I was having a heart attack.  I also don't have my gallbladder.  I researched my symptoms on the internet and discoverd a condition called SOD.  Sprinchter(sp?) of Oddi.  It is part of the bile ducts.  It can cause spasms and pain.  They insert a stant(sp?) to fix it.  I also saw that it could be acute pancreatitis.  I had a blood test done monday to check for digestive enzymes in my pancreas.  My doctor also said that my blood work at the ER showed an abnormalty with the liver.  I'm sitll waiting for the results.  He had me lay down and take in a deep breath and than pushed down under the right side of my ribs.  it was really tender.  He shook his head like he knew it was gonna be.  When I find out I'll let you know, otherwise if you get a diagnosis please let me know.

Pain right below the base of the sternum is typically caused by acid reflux problems. You may want to check with your doc.
