Annoying Discomfort Right Rib Cage

I am a 45 year old woman and have experienced CONSTANT discomfort in my right lower (and sometimes upper) ribcage.  The pain "travels".  Actually I would not call it pain, sometimes it feels as though there is pressure from inside pushing outward against the ribs.  Like a wadded sock under my ribs!  The discomfort has been present for over a year, but never so bad or painful that I wanted to immediately seek help.  However, living everyday w/discomfort is growing old!  It at times almost seems that it could be a muscular or skeletal problem.  Other than the discomfort, I've experienced no problems.  My appetite is GREAT, I generally feel good everyday and am exercising daily.  I have regular bms and no sign of liver disfunction, such as jaundice, discolored urine etc. I have never had an

I had my gallbladder removed 5 years ago due to a constant pain on the right hand side under the rib cage.  Within six months the pain was back and it seems to be getting worse than before the surgery.  I have had half a dozen ultrasounds and nothing.  It is very frustrating as I am eating nothing but soft foods and not too much of that.  Despite the reduced diet I don't seem to be loosing any weight - quite the opposite and I am a very active person.  I have seem three different doctors and they all look at my like I am crazy - I am now seeing a new doctor because no one should go through 24 hours of pain for days in a row.   One doctor thought my intestine was getting caught up under the rib cage - possibly causing a back up and the bloated sensation????  If I find out anything further from my new doctor I will post immediately.  Before going - you have no idea how happy I was to find this site - I thought I was all alone with this.

Hi all.

I drink beer pretty regulary, but last week, I really kinda pounded them down.

After that, also about a week ago, I experienced pain in my back on my right side (upper) and thought I had lifted something awkwardly, (my daughters bike).

Next day the pain "moved" to under my ribcage on my right side!

It was very tender to the touch and there was significant discomfort when I took a deep breath. I stopped by a vitamin store and asked about anti-oxidants and they told me Milk Thistle and Cucurmin (or some kind of Tumeric stuff) would help.

Well, I've been taking that stuff for a few days now and have laid of the beer but I'm just not sure what the heck is the deal here.

I've been reading all this stuff about liver disease, cirrosis, gallbladder, etc...

Its starting to really freak me out!

I made a Dr. Appointment but I'd like to hear from some of you here.

Whats up????!!!

thanks...

I started having the SAME feeling about a year ago and have never seen anyone describe it like that, having a baby under your rib cage. That's exactly what it feels like to me. Initially the symptom was accompanied by extreme nausea, stomach pain and severe IBS symptoms (altering between diarrhea  and constipation). I had bloodwork done testing for inflammation markers and liver enzymes, I had ultrasounds, a colonoscopy and endoscopy and the only thing they could find was chronic gastritis (my stomach is chronically enflamed). The symptoms have seemed to come and go over the year with less severity but recently, they seem to be pretty bad. Still no answers and don't feel like going back through all the tests to find nothing. Have you gone to a dr or heard anything?

I think you have gallstones I have the same problem there's no pain but just feeling nausea and felt something under my rib cage. Also I was diagnosed with chronic gastritis. I'm feeling much better now as I juice up fruits and vegetables like spinach, carrot broccoli, almond nuts. Just use only apple and fruits with less acid. Its better to stay away from high acidic fruits as it cause too much gas. Fry food is not good and drink green tea and peppermint tea after meal as it is good for the stomach. Hope this helps

This is not an answer but a cry for help. I am having the same discomfort as yourself in my lower right rib cage. Feels kind of like when you're pregnant and the baby is pushing up against your side. It's very uncomfortable. Accompanied with bloating and a headache. Sometimes with nausea. I came online looking for some help. Maybe a home remedy. The discomfort comes n goes. Not constant but often recurring. Is there a name for this? What should I do? Have you found relief?

The best thing you can do is to totally quit drinking alcohol, if you want to live a healthy, longer life.

And Yes, you CAN clean up your liver - do a Dr. Schultz Liver Cleanse.  Do one every year to maintain a healthy liver.   I avoided gallbladder surgery by doing liver cleanses.  I had a terrible bout with gallstones and was terribly ill for 8 months.  After doing 2 cleanses I passed all the gallstones and got healthy again.  Avoided surgery.  (Most people who get their gallbladder removed say the pain never really goes away....)

I agree..I have experienced all the same conditions that everyone has detailed so well. I don't have pain just a nagging pressure and dullness felling that seemed to move around...come and go. I had blood work done and appear to be very healthily so my doctor tells me. I narrowed it down to either stomach infections or a nasty parasite. I heard carrots, garlic, sauerkraut, lemons are good for cleaning your stomach and intestines. Pure 100% cranberry juice...no sugar and not the ocean spray brand  can also clean your body especially the kidney. I have been drinking 1 part real lemon juice and 1 part water and this seems to taking away the pressure feel in in my stomach or intestines. I have also been grating carrots and eating them on an empty stomach which is supposed to kill those nasty parasites. I also like and eat sauerkraut and lots of garlic not to mention raw tomatoes and ooions help too. The doctors won't prescribe medicine for me because I diagnosed it myself. So decided to kill the infections or parasites with natural home remedies. Although it seems and I stress seems to be working for me doesn't mean it will work for everyone. I will provide an update in a couple weeks. Hopefully I kill what's ailing my stomach or intestines or organs.

I have sort of that pain. It's not in my gall bladder or lower abdominal region. It's always under my right rib cage. My partner had gall bladder stones and she had pain in the lowlower front and back. Plus vomitting and blood in her urine . She had her gall bladder removed . I don'thave any of that .  The pain, to me, feels almost like the MS hug . I'm going to be 42 . I do have heartburn among other health iissues. So while it could be gall bladder for some, we must rremember that diseases mimic each other. All I know is that it is annoying .

I have had this same problem that just started the past few months, maybe even 6 months now. No pain but I feel like my liver is swollen and tight as if it is pushing my rib but doesnt feel or appear swollen outwardly. It has now started radiating to my right side of my back up to my shoulder like a tight muscle, still no pain. I also started experiencing stomach issues such as constant diarrhea, sensitivity to coffee I have been drinking daily for years and never had a problem with before etc. My doc initially thought it was gallbladder and did a US and blood work, both which came back good with the exception of a small polyp which I know isnt near the size of the pressure I feel not to mention my heart is telling me it isnt that organ causing the problem (instincts matter). I did a CT Scan yesterday and it came back normal too so I have no answer at this point either. I did read this link though which covers just about every single symptom I have been experiencing and may give some guidance. We all want relief so I wanted to share what seems to have helped. I started drinking a natural liver detox tea found at any grocery store in the tea isle or health store and adding organic tumeric powder a few dashes and cinnamon which are both anti-inflamatory and I swallow a couple pepper corns from the spice section as the properties in pepper enhance the effectiveness of the tumeric and within 30 minutes the pressure went away. I did this for a week and was symptom free for a week. I stopped and it came back. This link may help some of you to determine it is probably your liver needing a detox and a healthier lifestyle. I would also like to mention that I have smoked weed and notice that it aggravated the pressure and was less present when not smoking. Any details help as many may not mention in a blog or to a doctor.

I've been feeling pressure under my rib cage and sharp pain in the middle of my stomach. 2 months ago I went to get it checked out with a endoscope to see what's in my stomach and I found out I had helicobacter pylori bacteria and then got some antibiotics, and took them for 7 days. before that I thought that the bacteria was the cause of my pressure under my rib cage, but as soon as I was done with my dose the pain continuously went on. I then went back to the doctors and had a ultrasound, but my organs were fine. I also took a blood test and the results of gallstones were negative.  Does anyone know the causes of this or have experienced something like this?

From someone who has been down this path, sounds like you got yourself an addiction there. I would suggest seeing you doc and telling him/her about the length of time and quantity that you have been taking Vicodin. Good luck!

I have a strong hunch that it may be parasites.  They are very hard to diagnose, and some of them can cause lots of nasty symptoms, especially if you have more than one colony!  Even if you're not in a tropical Country, the great amounts of travelling nowadays by people can bring all sorts of parasites here in North America!

So look into parasites and their symptoms, remember that there are many different types!  And try a parasite cleanse, or take good quality probiotics.  Good luck!

PS. I had lots of weird symptoms as well and the doctors could not find anything, so they just thought it was all psychological!

I have suffered from this same pain/discomfort for about 4 or 5 years as well. I have been to the gastro and liver specialists. I have acid reflux, chronic vomiting of acid and bile, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, gastritis, GERD, and IBS. I have had ct scans, mri's. I just had another scope to look at my esophagus and stomach where she found mild inflammation and took tissue samples. This is getting tiresome. Almost every morning I am sick to my stomach and vomit either acid or bile. I also feel as though my Dr. feels that some of this is in my head. I am tired of having psychiatric medication thrown at me instead of figuring out what is really going wrong.
