Bloating, belching, difficult swallowing, gastritis and may be gerd?

I'm 30 years old male. My history is allergic rhinitis and sinusitis. I took several antibiotics courses and that got rid of the sinusitis but I am still having postnatal drip with clear mucus. Two months ago while i was taking the last course of antibiotics, I have belching, bloating, indigestion and a bit of difficult swallowing. So, I went to GI hospital and had endoscopy performed and tested for H. pylori. H. pylori clotest came back negative. They look at my esophagus and it was ok. I was diagnosed with gastritis and due to inflammation of the at the end of the digestive system and gerd due to difficult swallowing. I took medication for gastritis and gerd for two weeks and feels better. But after medication ran out I had symtoms coming back. So, I went to GI hospital again, they gave me another two weeks of medication. Again after two weeks without medication, I was having symptoms of bleching, bloating, indigestion, and difficult swallowing. I went to my primary physician, he gave me omeprazole 40 mg morning 1 hour before breakfast per day. It had been 5 days since I took omeprazole. I am still having belching, bloating, indigestion, and very difficult swallowing. It feels like my throat is swelling and its hard to get food down. I really need help. Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like really bad acid reflux. What mg omeprazole are you taking? 20mg or 40mg? If its only 20, I'd suggest taking 2 pills in the morning 30 min before eating.
Are you staying away from stomach irritating foods? Dont have coffee, tea, tomato, gluten, dairy, or soy. These are known to irritate the stomach lining and make acid reflux worse.

i forgot to mention that I have constant ear ringing for almost 7 months. I'll see the ENT for that also. The last time i had hearing test and ear checked at an ENT hospital four months ago, they told me not to use headphone and listen to loud noise thats all.

I went to see my doctor today bc I have a very small yellowish cyst on the side of my mouth near the throat and well my allergy blood test came back all negative. He checked my mouth and doesnt seems concern about the cyst, and he said it will go away. Now I dont know what causing my sinus blockage and postnasal drip all year long. He gave me a whole bunch of sore throat pain reliever lozenges to chew for 4 times a day. I'll see him this friday for allergy skin prick test and I think I'll ask him for an ENT referral bc my insurance required referral before I can go to specialist for a consultation. I am also going to see a dentist tomorrow for full mouth examination. I am taking 15 billions cell probiotic and will increase to 30 billions soon. Thanks for your reply. I'll tell you what he has to say on friday

didnt realize there were sinus problems. that could def be the cause. my mother had something similar and she had to have her sinuses drained. Have you gone to an ENT yet? If not, you should.
Also, the constipation/diarrhea is probably from the antibiotics. They wreak havoc on the stomach and digestive system.
I suggest getting a powerful probiotic, maybe Ultimate Flora 30Billion cultures. and take it as soon as you are done with the antibiotics. You should also get organic, unrefined, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. Put a table spoon in a glass of warm water and gargle with it 3+ times a day.
I know your throat is sensitive, so if this causes a problem, then stop.
Antibiotics kill all the good and bad bacteria in your body. When the good bacteria is gone, things like yeast grown unchecked and cause a whole bunch of problems.

hello cnoevl,
it had been a while. Anyways, i went to a different primary physician three weeks ago and he looked at my throat using flash light. He said its red due to inflammation. He also saw the postnasal drainage which i had been having for the whole year. He prescribed antibiotic, corticosteroid, and pantoprazole(replaced omegaprazole) for 10 days. After 8 days of medication, i have much less trouble swallowing, much less burping and I was able to eat solid food comfortably. However I have stomach problem such as constipation, diarrhea, bloating, discomfort and little pain. it may be due to pantoprazole medication side effect. i went back to the doctor office next day and he looked at my throat and said its much better. he scheduled allergy test for me in two weeks since im taking corticosteroid i cant have allergy test now. After a week, im still feeling tired, and my throat is still bothering me. less trouble swallowing but still having a bit of trouble. a bit of throat pain, throat tightness, and it feels heavy. i have pressured burping and liquid regurtation. i am still constant clearing throat saliva. i am currently taking pantoprazole alone for gastric reflux and its not helping at all. I think the postnasal drip is causing all this problem. i dont think i have acid reflux. what do you think? i appreciate your help alot. I have been sick with sinus problem for almost a year.Im very tired and my anxiety is high.

Your throat needs time to heal. All that acid reflux probably screwed it up pretty bad. Make sure you're not eating 2-3 hours before you lay down. You want to try sleeping sitting up, or at least highly elevated so you are not flat on your back

hello cnoevl21,
I'm on 40mg/per day which is two 20mg omeprazole pill in the morning 1 hour before breakfast. My throat makes clicking/gurling sound when I swallowing liquid or water. It feels like something is rubbing in my throat. I also have dry mouth when I wake up and may be that b/c I am not drinking enough water. I haven't drinking much water since my throat is not feeling well. I am on a strict diet now with water, rice, skinless chicken, green veggies, fishes, and banana. Man, I am so stressed out now, I don't want trouble swallowing.

hello cnoevl21,
As of today, after a week of omeprazole, I still have trouble swallowing and occassional belching. I feel like choking when my stomach try to expels gas through burping. My throat feels tight, and its very uncomfortable. I am also currently taking probiotic (Culturelle Lactobacillus GG). I hate having trouble swallowing and that occassional choking feeling. I was having hoarness but my voice is much better today. I hope these symptoms will be cleared up soon because I will starts working night shift as of today.

Take probiotics on an empty stomach. I like to take them at night before I go to bed. Or take it in the morning, but dont eat for an hour or so after taking it (whcih is why i take it at night)

hello cnoevl21,
Thanks for your advice, today i feel a bit better. I'll continue taking omeprazole and I'm going to try probiotics while eating soup only. I hate having difficult swallowing, its hard to eat anything solid. Hopes this will work, its hard to see GI doctors. It takes weeks to make appointment and I need referral from my primary physician.

Why dont you just keep taking the omeprazole if it helps? It may be something you need to take for a few months, not a few weeks.
I'd also start taking a strong probiotic (at least 7 strains of good bacteria and 15 billion or more live cultures). Its something thats good to take daily normally, but for sure you need to take it after antibiotics. Im betting the antibiotics completely screwed up your gut flora, and the imbalance is what is causing all your gastric issues.
