Blood clot & Mucus Stool

Recently, I have had a blood clot inside of my stool. About a week later, I had nothing but mucus for stool - nothing else... I'm concerned but I don't want to waist a lot of $ & time if I shouldn't worry about it. I'm 41 years old w/an 20  & 14 year old children. I don't have Hemorrhoids.

Not to say that you have colon cancer, but with the bleeding and no hemorrhoids, it definitely should be checked for!

It is not a waste of time to go to a GI specialist with such symptoms so they can check you for colon cancer and also for a blockage of your intestines.  If caught early, the cure rate for colon cancer is considered quite good, whereas if caught late, the cure rate is quite dismal, humanly speaking.  And having nothing but mucus is definitely not a healthy thing.  Your bowels need to move.  Please don't wait.  I might even call an advice nurse and see if this can even wait until tomorrow to address!

Rectal bleeding is not normal and should prompt you to seek medical advice.  The conclusion maybe "everything is OK" but, in the worst case, rectal bleeding can indicate more sinister causes.  For background, google rectal bleeding - the Medininenet site is particularly informative.
