Blood on toilet tissue

Last nigt before going to bed I went to the bathroom. I didn't have a BM but I wiped and noticed blood on the paper.  There was a  burning feeling on the skin. When I had a BM earlier in the day there was no blood at all and I had been straining because I felt constipated.  What does this sound like? Please help.

Any time there is bleeding, I think you should check with your GP to make sure it's nothing serious.

Probably a DRE, anoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy will rule out anything serious in a few minutes and will hopefully put your mind to rest. If it's hemmerroids then you can rest easy - so to speak!

Yes, hemorrhoids don't necessarily hurt.  They are very vascular and so will bleed at the slightest pressure, until they finally shrink and are no longer a source of bleeding.  It's when some irritating waste is left on the area, or the swollen hemorrhoid is rubbed over and over, or right after very hard waste goes by them, that they tend to hurt or burn or itch.  This is why plain KY jelly helps so much, the protective film prevents continued abrasion and exposure of the delicate tissues of the hemorrhoid, and while it might still bleed at the slightest pressure, it won't hurt.   But once you get your digestion sorted out, the hemorrhoids will begin to shrink, and eventually there is less and less discomfort, bleeding subsides, until it all stops.

Thanks for your help, I have one other question for you.

Is it possible to have hemmroids with no pain? I have in the past noticed a small amount OD bright red blood but no pain.

You have a very common problem with your digestion.  Hemorrhoids are sensitive vascular tissues that will swell when a person has to strain to get waste out.  So, when hard constipated waste goes by these tissues, they'll bleed.  It is normally not a serious problem, but very annoying, as the tissues will also hurt, itch, burn, just like yours did.  To stop the burning you have, after bathing apply plain KY jelly where the waste comes out, it comes in a blue and white tube at the drugstore, it'll ease the discomfort and last all day, it washes off next bath because it's water soluble.  And to prevent constipation in the first place, the basic three habits to follow are:  Drink plenty of water daily, eat enough fiber foods daily, and exercise regularly.  Hemorrhoids come and go, just as people get constipated from time to time, so it should shrink and stop bleeding as soon as your digestion straightens out.  Now, if it really gets to hurting bad and KY jelly on there doesn't help and it bleeds all the time despite having regular movements, then you should visit a family doc to treat you for perhaps a fissure, which is just a small tear in the skin that will usually heal on its own, but sometimes a doc needs to provide treatment for it.  But I think you just had a hemorrhoid giving you a hard time.
