Bowel Movements

Good Morning,

Lately I have been having different bowel movements shapes...at times it is flat ribbon like, other times it is pencil thin, and other times more round...Whe there is an obstruction it would alway be the same shape right?...No nausea....diarreah like after drinking milk in the morning...more solid when eating fiber....not a lot of constipation althought at times I have it...some left lower back pain but my doctor has attributed to a problem in my lower back (l5-s1)....no vomiting....some abdominal cramping before going to the bathroom...should i be overly concern about a polyp or colon cancer or is it more like ibs...my doctor says not to worry but i do...would colon cancer have different shapes of bowel movements?...thanks a lot....

I had an abdominal/pelvic ct scan and the only thing that showed up was diverticular disease but no diverticulitis....abdominal x-rays were negative with unremarkable gas pattern and no abnormal pathology...should i go on with a colonoscopy?

Hey Rob,

You should be worried enough to check it out.  Could be alot of things.  If diet changes help your stool, I wouldn't worry too much.  But do check it out.

I had similar symptoms and had smear tests, blood work, CT scan and barium enema done.  Everything perfect with no abnormalities found.  Also no reason for my condition.  Probably IBS or spasms the doctor says.  There are internal hemmeroids which are probably causing the blood.

Good luck, and make sure you get yourself looked at.
