Bowel movement

I've been having trouble with going to the bathroom for years now and I didn't realize it was a problem until it started to really irritate my lower abdomen. It got so bad to the point where I would throw up. I went to my doctor and she prescribed me miralax, which I have been on for 3 months now. I feel as if I can't go to the bathroom on my own without taking it. Should I be concerned and seek a specialist?

What is your diet like? Not sure if you are American or not, but the average American diet is pretty damn awful. Not enough fiber, too much red meat, not enough fruits and veggies, too much fast foods. all of this will wreak havoc on your digestive system over time.
if this is at all you, slowly start to change your diet. Add more fruits and veggies, maybe a fiber supplement. Also, drink more water! Most people do not drink enough of it per day and that is a major cause of constipation. 60oz a day on average. A little more, a little less depending on your body size.
But I would definitely see a GI specialist to test for digestive disorders.
Also, you don't want to take laxitives on a constant basis, they can cause issues, make your digestive system lazy.

PS, laxatives should be a short term fix for severe constipation.  There are more long term treatments available these days.  Irritable bowel syndrome or IBS are often to blame for such symptoms.  People think of IBS as diarrhea but it is actually more common to have constipation symptoms from IBS than that.  There are new generations of excellent medications used to treat IBS.  I'm not diagnosing you by any means but this is something for you to explore with a GI specialist.  good luck

Hi there.  Very sorry you are having this difficulty.  Definitely follow up with a specialist at this point.  I would  not hesitate to make a doctors appointment with a specialist to get to the bottom of this.  Get a referral from your doctor.  good luck dear
