Hi Jaspore..just got over a five month bout with C Diff myself with relapses (clindamycin caused mine too) and your journey sounds alot like mine.  Flagyl failed (failures rising per latest studies) and then went to vanco round, followed by a slow vanco taper.  The taper seems to have been the magic bullet for my case.  Finished taper and felt "C Diffy" for months afterward, doc attributed it to post infection IBS.  Finally back to normal here - but it was a long road to healing.  It simply left when it was "good and ready" to leave.  Infusions are a newer concept here in the states, but they are done with much success.  The hard part is finding a doc willing to do them, let alone discuss them - many docs stlil believe this is the "old C Diff" that your granny got in hospital.  All of your symptoms sound "normal" post C Diff to me, as awful as they are they really do pass with time.  If it aint the original "D", my guess is that you are on your way to healing - and the good days will evenutally outnumber the bad ones.  Of course, call your doc if you suspect bonafide relapse, but alot of the post-symptoms, along with the affects of the probiotics truly can mimic some of the original icks.  Best of luck to you.

It must be something else beside C diff. C diff is normal bacteria within the colon, it should not cause problems in a healthy person.

It is possible clyndamicin triggered C diff overgrowth, and you get correct treatment. Are you sure you finished all cures completely (taken antib. all days as prescribed)?

1. It may be small intestinal bacterial overgowth OR
intestinal candida overgrowth (do you have oral thrush maybe?) Both this may be detected by a BREATH TEST.

2. It may be lowered immunity from any reason: chronic disease, malabsorption, diabetes

What to do:
1. Breath test for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth or/and CANDIDA.
2. Blood work for sings of inflammation and stool test for signs of malabsorption. These are general and simple tests but blood test may show that there is some underlying systemic disease, and stool test can show, if there is any bowel disease.

Before any testing, you can make an elimination diet test for candida. Drop ALL sugar (table sugar, sweets, all fruits and fruit juices), also potatoes, pasta and rice. I mean all foods with glucose and fructose, and those which contain mainly starch. Eat whole-grain bread instead. If it was candida overgrowth, this diet should cause obvious change in your bowel habit.

In October I did Clindamycin for a tooth infection. I've had four reoccurrences of C Diff since.  Antibiotics alone are not curing......Flagyl and/or Vancomycin
Eat live yogurts, probiotics all inbetween occurrences.  When not episodic with D,
still feeling terrible, swollen abdomen, abdominal pains, chronic fatigue.............
Now what?

Treatment of C diff is with oral antibiotics as prescribed by a doctor. If C diff recurs, it may mean, there's something wrong with your intestinal flora. Have you been on antibiotics lately?
