Chronic Paancreaatiituus

Hello,

I got admiited in to hospital cristmas eve with pancreatitus I was in there  for 2days, i got discharged with no pain relief even though i was in reaalii bad pain stil n reaally swoolen, i was only out 8-9days n i got admiited back in again not last Tuesday but Tuesday before for a further 2days, i got discharged on the Thursday with ibruufen and paracetmol which didnt really work, sooo i got admiited again last Monday with the same pains as i had christmas eve and the Tuesday before, the only kept me for a few hours this time and they discharged me with Co Codamol, but im on 40mls of methadone which the hospital knows am on it, the Co Codamol worked for a while and helped ease the pain but on Monday i went to the doctors as it werent helping the pain anymore and she prescribed with Tramadol.

2Daay i tuk my Methadone and the Tramadol on top without thinking, can you mix Methadone and Tramadol, bcuz am also alternatiing my Co Codamol and Tramadol to help ease the pain

The doctors at the hospital cant do anything for the pancreatitus except treat the pain and then discharge me again, they dont know the cause of it as i dont drink anymore and havent done 4 over 3yrs now and all my Blood Testz and CT n Ultrasound Scans iv hd while bein in hospital have all come back clear for Gallstones which they say are the 2 main causes of Pancreatitus, they also dont know how long it'll take 2 settle aswel, it could take weeks, months or even years cos now am in the chronic stages whereas when i got admiited Christmas Eve it was Acute pendin Chronic Pancreatitus.

Can any1 help answer my questions as 2 wether itz ok 2 take, Methadone, Tramadol n Co Codamol all together obvs not at the same time but through out the day to help the pain as iv been sufferin 4 5wkz n 5daayz with this now and it dont look like its going to clear up anytime soon.

Thankyou for yur help (in advance)

If your question is about how to stay not addicted to pain killers, then it shouldn't be moved.  Try again, and if they move it again, let me know and I'll deal with it.

Empathetic to your situation...Having a rough go of it I am sure, chronic symptoms of pancreatitis are fun. Mine started August last year with debilitating pain and 4 day hospital stay than bacon September 3 day hospital, home 2, back hospital 4. Seen specialist at state u Mrcp negative, ercp showed pancreatic scarring and I was diagnosed w/chronic pancreatitis. They did pancreatic sphinterotomy and left stint. This did help slow down bowels and I have only had 1  episode since.  So you might suggest this to your doc . Pain however did not go away I just started fentanyl 4 days ago if it works I will let you know and I hope you are able to find some relief.

Well I would recommend posting there saying that you are a recovering heroin and crack addict and a recovering alcoholic and your doctors have put you on narcotics and you are worried about getting addicted and if they have any advice for you.

I'm pretty nauseous right now, but I'm managing.  Gastroparesis is when your stomach is basically paralyzed so food doesn't move through it.  When I used to try and eat, I would get full really quickly, very nauseous, and then vomit up everything I had eaten.  Now that I am tube fed into my small intestines as opposed to my stomach, I don't vomit, I don't have a full feeling, but I still have problems with nausea.  I also have a PICC line (which is like a long-term IV that goes into my arm and the tube goes from my arm to my heart) so that I can get medications intravenously.

Then I would recommend you find a different doctor.  If you are a recovering heroin and crack addict and a recovering alcoholic, I too worry that you could become addicted to these pain meds. You might want to try posting on the addiction: substance abuse community to see if they can give you any guidance.

Shaamzop,

I had pancreatitis in 2008.  I just posted a question about it where I describe it in detail.

You might want to consider taking the amino acid - Methionine.  I started taking it about 6 months after my pancreatitis and it helped with the pain tremendously.  Two herbs that might help also are Milk Thistle and Dandelion.  But, I would try the Methionine first.

You can find them at most health food stores.

Best wishes.

Tim

It sounds like you need to find a good gastroenterologist who will help you deal with this.  It is very very rare to die from this, so I wouldn't worry about that.  And it is also unlikely that you would need a feeding tube.  However, I have had a feeding tube for a year now and I can honestly tell you that it is not a big deal and it has helped my problems immensely.
