Colonoscopy and Diverticulitis

Can a colonoscopy be performed while you have diverticulitis, or would that be too risky - would it possibly cause a rupture?

They try not to do a colonoscopy if you have diverticulitis.  It is risky as it could case a rupture.  Only in extreme cases (acute Diverticulitis) will they do one.  I know because I had it done.  There is a very large difference between Diverticulitis and Diverticulosis though.

I had a colonoscopy and the indicated I had diverticulosis one lower part of my large intestine..Then 6 mos. later I became nauseated.following diarrhea and vomiting.. Doctor put me on Cipro and Flagyl. The antibiotics cleaned my good bacteria also..I developed. C-diff 3 days later..I ended up in ER ..assumed I had ulcerative colitis..Staff at the hospital kept me so doped up on pain killers..I didn't know which end was up..I then developed Sepsis and turned gray in skin color and finally after 9 days of doctor on call..he consulted another doctor..he came in..looked my high stomach and said"STAT NOW"..EMERGENCY SURGERY.. After surgery found out my colon had to be removed and left with a colonscopy bag..small intestine protruding on the right side is my belly...Please be careful..this something not to deal with!!!!
