Colonoscopy and nervous

WEll I finally went to a colon and rectal dr and he did some lighted scope just looking at rectal area, and he said he saw nothing bad at all, but wants me to have a colonoscopy to figure out why I have red in bowel movements. Sometimes its streaked red and other times its maroonish looking and other times theres like maroonish clots in it. Sometimes well only like once there was a small purplish maroonish) clot on toilet paper, so I am really scared about colon cancer at my age. Please anyone have any ideas. They want me to do colonoscopy on Nov,9. I am scared to do it because I am scared of what theyll find. The colon dr looked at my bloodwork and said it was perfect and he said that it was great because I wasnt anemic, either.

Hi - my Wife's uncle was about 72 when he died.  Your age (33) makes colon cancer extremely unlikely but there have been extremely rare cases (mentioned in Medhelp) where the signs of colon cancer have been detected in patients in their 20's.

Do have the colonoscopy.  You are fortunate to the extent that you have been offered this test and, after the test, you can close the door on your worries (hopefully).  The opposite (i.e. being refused a colonoscopy because "the doctor, in his/her opinion believes that it is probably unnecessary) would be far less satisfactory and would not dispel your concerns.

Good luck

How old was your wifes uncle? this has been goin on for about 1 year and 1/2. I have no weight nor appetite loss. Only one in family that we (think) had colon cancer was my pappal on my dads side, but he lived to be 84. I am just so nervous, like you said automatically think the worse.

Do go through with the colonoscopy which is probably the most comprehensive test for lower G.I. disorders such as rectal bleeding.

Google "rectal bleeding" and click on to the Medicinenet site so that you are better informed when you see your specialist.

You are extremely unlikely (based on your age) to have developed colon cancer which normally occurs at age 40/50+ but naturally the "worst possible scenario" always rebounds around the head.  So, don't follow the pathway of my Wife's uncle who, inspite of fairly obvious symptoms, didn't visit a doctor.  When eventually he did, the doctor said "if only you had come to see us sooner".  But sadly he died within a year of colon cancer.  Don't let this happen to you.

I would think it has to be something, or there wouldn't be blood. I have been having this for about 1 year and a half.

Just remember that knowing is better than not knowing.  But odds are it's nothing.  It's probably hemorrhoids or something like that.  My mother always said there's no sense worrying until there's something to worry about.

Good luck.
