Diarrhea after colonoscopy
Has anyone experienced constant diarrhea after a colonoscopy? I had a colonsoscopy peformed yesterday, with a prep of Dulcolax and Phospho-Soda. Continue to have diarrhea (still only drinking clear liquids) that I assume is still from the effects of the laxatives. The doctor and nurses tell me not to worry, the diarrhea will pass, but they've been saying this for two days. Any advice?
Also, anyone out there have Crohn's disease affecting the small intestine? If so, how was it diagnosed? My colonscopy was done for possible IBD. The pictures of the colon showed no inflammation, and a biospy of some areas are being done. If the biopsies come back negative, the GI wants to do the small pill camera test to rule out Crohn's in the small intestine. He says this is the only way to check the small bowel. Is he right?

I wish I had an answer. I was bullied into a colonoscopy 6 years ago when I was 70. I had had no gut issues ever. Since the procedure, I have had diarrhea that has worsened with time. The doc who performed the procedure prescribed (over the phone) a powerful antibiotic that was supposed to target what he guessed was a bacterial infection and VSL#3. Took the $1200 antibiotic for the 2 weeks prescribed & the VSL#3 for 5 years. No cure, only worsening condition. Have done lots of research and am convinced western med has no answer except another colonoscopy, and I'm not going there.
I too had diarrhea and felt pretty s***y the next couple of days after my last colonoscopy. However, what's even worse is that when you look for help online; nobody gives any input onto what they did to alleviate their condition. Everybody just desperately reports their complaints, but never come back to write how and what they did to move on with their lives. So, I'm coming back to this site to post what I did to feel like myself again in a fast and effective matter after a colonoscopy:
1. Eat a low fiber diet 2 to 3 days after your colonoscopy. Stay away from sugar, dairy, eggs, nuts/seeds, meat, processed foods, soy, raw fruits and veggies. Your colon is overworked and needs the rest to heal.
2. Eat and drink things that will repair your gut: Bone broth, blended low fiber cooked veggie broth (i.e. Zucchini, butternut squash, carrots, etc). Drink Spring water and Coconut water (if you feel you need something with electrolytes)...Don't over do it with the water. You may have white rice and white toast here and there but don't abuse.
3. Drink Spring water with L-glutamine on an empty stomach (10 to 30 grams per serving, twice a day). If you add N-Acetyl Cysteine to it, it's make it even more powerful for healing and stopping the diarrhea.
4. Take Intestinew or Perm-A-Vite for further healing and repair (twice a day) on an empty stomach
5. Begin to take Probiotics as soon as you wake up from your colonoscopy. Take potent doses of probiotics two to three times a day on an empty stomach as well. Take reputable, refrigerated probiotics (I.E. Pharmax, VLS#3, Natren). Add S. Boulardii if diarrhea is not controlled in the first day. You can also add L. Plantarum 299V to alleviate bloating, flatulence, cramping and pain.
6. Take your probiotics with Colostrum. Colostrum will potentiate as well as give the probiotics the optimal terrain to thrive and attach to the colon walls.
7. Feed the probiotics and whatever good microbiome you have left in your colon with prebiotics.
8. Continue to take your probiotics, colostrum and prebiotics for months after colonoscopy to ensure the replenishment or your intestinal flora.
9. Take Podophyllum Pentatum (5 to 7 pellets) two to tree times a day for Diarrhea and intestinal growling. This homeopathic med works very fast.
10. Rest and sleep as much as possible for healing.
Follow these steps and you should recover within 24 to 72 hours after your colonoscopy.
The prep laxatives and the colonoscopy procedure will wipe out your microbiome fast. If you walked into the colonoscopy with a strong and healthy microbiome, you will not suffer as much. However, if your microbiome was compromised to start with, then it is guaranteed that you will suffer and need to take action fast. Hi Sir, thank you for all your information. My wife has been going through this post colonoscopy issue for 2 months plus now. Can a lot of these be taken simultaneously, or does each ingredient need to be spaced out. In other words, can she take her probiotics with the L-Glutamine, NAC, and S-Boulardii at the same time?? I just had a "routine colonoscopy" for screening (age 55). had painful cramping and diarrhea for 48 hours. Finally got permission to take Imodium to try to reverse effects of the "cleansing". Three days later my gut it *still* upset and I have not yet been able to get back to work. I am very uncomfortable and still have not be able to resume eating. I will *never* have another colonoscopy and while I know it is considered a "routine" thing these days, I would seriously recommend folks think about it before doing something like this, which is advising you to take massive amounts of laxatives, way above what is normally prescribed. They have side effects!

Please Don’t give up on colonoscopy. There are various prep protocols and you can try a different one next time. Just let your doctor know what issues you had with this one., when the time comes.
I had my colonoscopy done 3 years ago. I was in perfect health except for some mild constipation and mild bloating. My GP recommended colonoscopy and I went along. My life has changed since then. I continue to suffer from diarrheas, sometimes five to six times a day. Some food irritate me more ... wheat, certain fruits and lactose. I had intolerance to these but only resulted in mild discomfort. Now I am in hell every time I eat them ... I purge ... almost like I am having IBS. My GP has recommended that I have another colonoscopy. I am NEVER going to do that ever again. I have always been healthy, fit and energetic. Never needed to visit the doctors. Now I am constantly visiting them. I wish I had never done the colonoscopy procedure.My whole gut culture and environment has changed.

I have been in pain with diarriah for two months after my procedure. Like you always pretty healthy. The colonoscopy ruined my insides. I am now taking medicine for ulcerated colitis. It's very stressful and I'm pissed. Will NEVER get another colonoscopy.

My colonoscopy was Friday (prep Thurs.). Today is Monday. While I have diarrhea that resembles "baby food" every time I sit on the toilet or pass gas, I have not had a normal bowel movement since the procedure. One polyp found and removed, but no bleeding (yet). Friends who have had the procedure done say they were on a gradual add-back diet afterward, but my MD said go eat normally. No severe pain, fever or chills, but this is still not right. Any suggestions?
Mother had Colonoscopy done 2 years ago and diarrhea still going on after eating something. What is wrong. Give her diarrhea medicine but still going on. Now she is in the United States What should I do for her. Goes 4 times a day.

Hi, I had diarrhea for about 48 hrs after my colonoscopy - but it did subside. Not sure about the small pill camera, but the coloscopy & gastroscopy do not reach the small bowel, therefore his suggestion of the the small pill story. I had a small bowel berium meal x-ray (15 x-rays over 3 hrs) - this was to rule out crohns in the small intestine. I think this is similar to the procedure your doc is suggesting. Hope this helps.
