Dieting and noisy stomach

I have been dieting for the last 2 months by limiting my carb intake and eating more protein and much more vegetables such as broccolli, califlower, cabbage, lettuce, asparugus, green beans, etc. I have lost approx. 30 pounds and still would like to lose another 40 pounds. For the last 2 weeks or so, I have noticed that my stomach has been more active and noisy. This usually happens right after I eat for about 1/2 hour to an hour, I also notice it when I wake up, and also when I take a drink. There is no pain, my stomach just seems to be more noisy, almost like it is producing acid, etc. I do not know if my stomach has been doing this ever since and I just noticed it since I have lost weight and some of the fat around my midesection, making it easier for me to hear the sounds, or if there is a problem. I also wonder if my body is just trying to get used to me eating smaller meals, etc. and still producing acid expecting a big meal ??? Today I met a friend and we had lunch at a chinese resteraunt buffet and I just ate a lot of the chicken and beef broccoli, more than normal, but hey we need to splurge once in a while. Afterwards for about 1/2 hour I actually felt a little quezy (I think I might have ate too much was not used to it), and my stomach was making noises for about an hour or so. So does anyone know what may be going on or is it just all in my head ?? Thanks for any info.

Ok for the last few days I have not eaten or drinked any of the Atkins shake or bars which have the splenda / sucralose, have been eating regularly with lots of vegetables like cabbage, sauerkraut, collard greens, broccolli, etc. and my intestines seems to be quieter than they usually were when I was eating the Atkins stuff. Today I went for a long walk and drank some diet tea with splenda / sucralose and about 2 hours later I can hear my intestines working like they are moving some gas, not as much as before, but I did notice it. I will try and keep off all splenda / sucralose products for the rest of the week and see how it goes. God Bless !!!!!!!

Congratulations on your weight loss also. I too still would like to lose about 35 pounds more, so I am only 1/2 way to my goal. Today I too went to McDonalds for lunch to test it out and ate a Qtr pounder meal, regular size fries, and unsweetened ice tea, and was also fine, no gassiness, etc. Even after several hours there was no gassiness. For dinner today I had some baked chicken and broccolli and was also fine. I started thinking of what else did I start eating when I started dieting 3 months ago and realized that I also started eating more of the Atkins shakes and bars. Now when I eat them, I do not have any problems with gassiness, etc. but sometimes after a few hours after eating my next meal that is when I get gassiness, which might make me think it is the food I just ate, but could actually be the Atkins shake and bar that I ate earlier, that is now in my intestines. Looking at the ingredients I see it has Splenda / Sucralose which I have read can cause GI problems with people. So today I stopped having my 1 meal using the Atkins bar and shake and will try it out for the next few days to see if my problems disappear. Maybe the Splenda / Sucralose could be irritating my intestines giving me gas. I hope this helps. God Bless !!!

Congrats on your weight loss, that's awesome!  I too went to McDonalds to test my stomach, ate a Big Mac, and it didn't bother me.  It's weird that we both have more issues when eating healthy.  What sense does that make? My body clearly didn't like the change in diet at all for some reason.  How could I feel better when eating fast food in excess of 5 times a week to not at all.  Even with all the problems I'm having I'm still not going to go back to eating the way I did before.  It's frustrating that people keep assuming that I must feel better now that I've lost the weight, which is definitely not the case.  I've lost 49 lbs now and would like to lose about 20 more.

Thank you for your reply. What is funny is that I did used to eat a lot of junk food and never noticed this problem and for the last 3 months of dieting have been eating very healthy, lots more vegetables, etc. I have lost currently almost 40 pounds. About 3 weeks ago, I did do a test and ate some McDonalds food 2 times at different days and noticed no problems, no gassiness, etc. I really do not want to go back to eating like that because of all the gains I have made of losing this weight.

I completely changed up the foods I'd been eating I guess you could say I went on a diet.  Quit eating fast food, sweets, and stopped drinking softdrinks.  My stomach has not been the same since.  Since June of last year I've lost 48 pounds.  In August I started having the stomach issues which include burping, and being bloated.  By mid-October I started having severe attacks of pain which woke me up in the middle of the night. This happened 3 times in a month.  Finally went to a doctor and found out that I had a gallstone so I ended up having my gallbladder removed in December.  I'm still having stomach problems though.  My stomach is tender to the touch from my breatbone area down to my belly button.  I have stomach pain after eating and am still having burping and bloating issues.  Can't help but think that this all started with the drastic change in my diet and the weight loss.  I went from eating fast food at least 5 times a week and eating a lot of other junk food to almost completely not eating them at all.  Instead of eating fried, greasy, fatty foods I ate more fruit, veggies, and yogurt.  Maybe it was the weight loss or change in diet that caused this?  Thinking that if I go back to eating burgers, fries, and pizza I'll be cured.

Ok over the last month or so I have tried to see when my digestive system seems to be making a lot of noise. Yesterday my father made some vegetable beef soup that was thick with vegetables and about 30 minutes afterwards to about 3-4 hours, my stomach and intestines were gassy. No pain, just gassy. I know that the soup had a lot of vegetables such as chopped cabage, chopped broccolli, chopped celery. I know I have eaten broccolli before the last few days and did not get gassy. I wonder if the combination and high vegetable amount is causing the gassiness ??? I know it seems to only happen when I eat certain foods and it seems to be vegetables or combination of vegetables. Funny when I eat chicken, steak, meats, eggs, etc. I do not get like this. I am still trying to pin this down. Any suggestions or ideas ???

Since you're not having any pain or vomiting, I wouldn't worry about it.  I think it's just your stomach doing it's job.  Plus, you are giving it lots of stuff to break down like cabbage.  Congratulations on the weight loss, that's awesome!
