Divereticulitis diet & recovery

After being in the hospital 5 days on IV antibiotics for diverticulitis, I came home yesterday. The dietitian gave me the low-residue diet. Is it Ok to be eating these foods (white bread, soft meats, canned fruit) even while I have some pain in the lower left abdomen?

The above post is true. It can be very confusing, but during a flareup a low residue diet is recommended. After the infection is gone, doctors will tell you to resume a high fiber diet.

You're supposed to stay on a very low-residue, soft diet until the inflammatory stage is gone and then slowly switch to a high fiber diet. They want the infection to go down and be resolved. Then they'll want you to go high fiber to try to keep the pockets that have formed clean.
