Full thickness rectal intussusception

Hi all.

I have posted on here but only had 2 replies by same person. He was a lovely man but didnt know much on my problem.  

Please if you know any info on my problem please reply. I am very worried and have been told that intussusception in adults is rare and cause mainly by cancerous tumours!!! PANIC!!!!

I was diagnosed with a rectal intrususseption back in June 09, I have had several test & seen two seperate consultants, nobody has mentioned anything to do with cancer at all.  The condition means that if you think of the back passage like a telescope, then the top of the telescope is collapsing down on itself and this causes the feeling of pressure or sitting on a lump, I had key hole surgery to fit mesh to try & support it in Nov but so far no improvement, hope this is of some help,

Me again :), seems like calgal knows her stuff, i hope this helps you understand the problem but i do not think it will have put your mind to rest.
The problem with this, is that not even the Surgeon will know until they get in there. I do not think there is anything to do but wait and see and there is nothing worse than that, i can only try to put your mind at best by saying these type of problems have a high success rate with surgical treatment.

Intussusception in adults is rare. Statistics suggest that about 90% of intussusceptions in adults are caused by a definite underlying disorder. These include neoplasms or postoperative conditions. Neoplasm unfortunately is the most common cause - about 65% - but that leaves a fairly large percentage that aren't due to neoplasms so don't think the worst.
