Elevated Liver Enzymes for 24 hrs ???

I was admitted to the hospital via the ER on Tuesday morning. I went to the ER from work due to severe upper abdominal pain that moved into my chest making it difficult to breathe. I also had pain below my ribs, kind of squeezing pain. Since I had my gallbladder out four weeks ago I thought it was due to that.  When they addmitted me they said my EKG was abnormal and I may have had a heart attack. I underwent ct of abdomen and chest, ultrasound of abdomen and heart, nuclear stress test, all normal. On wed I thought I would get to go home but the doc said my liver enzymes were elevated, not sure but one of them was at 300 and she said 40 was normal. She ran Hepatitis tests and others but all came back normal except my potassium was low. They checked my liver enzymes again about 2 this morning and when the doc came in around 10 she said it was down to 50 and that my levels were coming down nicely so I could go home. I still have no idea what the cause of my pain was or what caused my liver enzymes to go up??? My blood pressure was also running low??? Does anyone know what could cause this, any of it. Home with no answers and still very afraid. Thanks for any help you can offer... Oh, I don't drink, take tylenol, I take levoxyl and xanax and recently stopped taking premarin. Thanks again!

Thanks for the response. The doc said my pancreatic enzymes checked out ok . I am now following a low fat diet, at least since the surgery. If it is spsms of the bile duct, will they go away on their own? Thanks again.

It's possible you could be experiencing spasms of the common bile duct which would result in elevated liver enzymes. But it could also raise you pancreatic enzymes, so make sure which enzymes were found to be elevated.

You may want to consider following a low fat diet if you're not doing so at the current time. Some people find that they can't process fats as well as they did prior to the surgery and a low fat diet may be of help.
