Elongated sigmoid colon

Hi,

I'm 32 years old, and struggling with toilette problems since my childhood. Sometimes I go to toilette every 3-4 days, and even when I do, the result is far from satisfactory. Sometimes it gets better for a few weeks, but we can fairly say, that the issue is constant and can't be healed just by changing my diet (belive me I tried)

So, I went to a doctor a month ago, and he suggested to do a virtual colonoscopy to find out what is wrong down there. They haven't found any serious issue, except one thing which is an elongated sigmoid colon (please, find the picture attached).

The doctor haven't explicitly stated, that this is causing my problems, so I need some help here to find out the truth.

-Do you think the elongated colon is causing my toilette issues?
-Is this something that can be fixed by surgery?

Thanks in advance

You'd just have to have a stoma for a little while and then they will be able to reattach them together after everything is healed up which can take up to 4 months. Whatever you chose to do just make sure you think about it because those procedures are dangerous and really only recommended if the condition is life threatening.

Not really, I like my colon pretty much, except the elongated part ;-)
I'm no surgeon, but I hope it's not that complicated to remove the elongated section, and reattach.

You'd have to have the whole colon removed if it really bothers you that much.

Well, I think it would be pointless to look for another issue, until we can absolutely rule out the elongated colon as a possible cause of my symtomps.

If this could be fixed by surgery, I would go for it without hesitation.

Have you discussed this with your GI? He/she should be able to fix you up, if not maybe go see a different GI. Virtual colonoscopies aren't always as accurate as the original version of a colonoscopy, the other GI may want to do a regular colonoscopy to see if you have anything else wrong with your colon such as inflamation (which can cause a stool to take a terribly long time to pass). Hang in there and I hope you get all this sorted out!

Yes, the thing is I'm a vegan and therefore my fibre consumption is already on top. Btw I've already tried various supplements, but none of them helps in the long run.

It is probably what could be causing the BM issues but it all depends on what your doctor thinks. If you feel like you're constipated it is probably just because it takes your stool a longer way to travel. Perhaps try some benifiber if you haven't, that may help give your stool more bulk and in turn help you have a normal BM. (I've delt with Chrons for a few years now and the benifiber always helps me).
