Gallbladder is gone!

Had my GB and appendix removed yesterday.  So far I feel pretty good, but sore.  Haven't been able to have a bowel movement yet, hope it's not too long before I do have one.  Guess the percocet is making things slow.  My bellybutton area is very bruised, rest of incision sites look pretty good.  Anyone else have bellybutton bruising after surgery?  How long did it take for your pain to go after surgery?  Will post again tomorrow.  Thanks in advance.

Bad morning today.  Dry heaved last night, actual vomit this morning.  Could be due to percocet, they do make me queasy.  Called doc since I couldn't keep pain pills down and pain had grabbed hold, and good.  He called in some darvacet (probably spelled wrong) which THANK GOODNESS doesn't make my stomach turn.  So, now I am tired, and once again mostly pain free.  Going to go see doc tomorrow morning to make sure I didn't hurt anything with the vomiting.  Hope I'll be coherent enough to give proper directions to hubby to make Thanksgiving dinner!  wish me luck!  lol

No my dr never even told me when to take off the bandages. Great doctor huh? but they were fine when i took them off. I have the 3 holes and then the one in the belly button. Only one of them took longer than the others to heal. I dont use anything for the scars. I never considered it. I do put lotion on everyday all over my body after my showers, that hasnt done a thing though. WHat the hell i already have stretch marks a few more "bullet holes" wont kill me. (Thats what they look like to me, so thats what i call em)

That burger sounds good and I think I could eat one, leaner that is. I have one incision hole that still bleeds a little and is kind of looks gapping since the staples are out. It bleeds a few drops and itches a lot. all the best

Guess what....I had a HAMBURGER today!  It really didn't taste very good.  I think I prefer the lower fat, non-fried food diet that will help reduce the chance of loose bowels.  Strange.  My throat still hurts too and I keep getting bloody boogers.  Is that normal?  None of that before surgery, just since.  I'm trying to be pampered, but my DH is a sports nut and he can't hear me call him over him yelling at the tv.  At least I can get up to use the bathroom without assistance.   lol

you should be able to shower right away.when i am in the hospital i have my ivs capped.i put plastic tubing on my arms and tape the ends with the hospital tape.i take saran wrap and cover my incisions again taping it off with hospital tape.if you have a ng tube you can still take a shower.use baby soap and baby shampoo.remember to take it REALLY easy for the next six weeks. no stairs,no lifting at all.be pampered.this will help prevent scar tissue from forming.its all over for you .only up hill from here on in.good luck.(let me know when you have that hamburger)

Glad to hear you are doing ok and my incisions itch and the bigger one still bleeds once in a while if I cough too much. No more narcotics for 5 days and I had some withdrawls, it suked! I feel better but not good and nausius today which could be the result of chantix . Is it common for folks to get constipated from GB surgery not from narcotics? I'm starting to feel that way a little

I think I'll be switching to tylenol for pain in a day or so.  I don't like to take narcotic pain meds.  Too easy for me to get hooked again.  Right now though they are definately needed.  All my incisions itch, especially the one where he got to my appendix.  I ended up having to drive my son to school this morning, and now realize why I'm not supposed to be driving.  Those little bumps in the road hurt like hell!  Gonna make my DH pick up our son and take him to the babysitter.  I can take care of me right now, but not the kids.  I go for my check up on the 26th I believe.  Will have to double check that.  I'm going to go lay down for a while.  I had staples when I had my son via c-section and found that having staples helps to reduce the surface scarring.  I can't wait until I can take a nice hot shower, I feel like a freakin' grease ball!  How long was it before you could shower?

Good luck with your next surgery.  I'm not sure how long it'll be before I'm ready to try eating a hamburger, but that sure does sound good!  Thanks for the tips about constipation...will be trying those out tonight!

be happy that you still have a belly button.(i don't) great to hear that your surgery went well.its all uphill from here on in.i have found that milk chocolate
or fresh pineapple before bedtime really helps for constipation.i am going in
for my fourth surgery on the 26th (lysis of adhesions and small bowel recection) and getting really jittery.when your up to it have a great big hamburger with all the toppings for all of us with chronic bowel deseases.

The narcotics will make you constipated but at least you eating, right? I'm glad I'm off all the pain meds and probably took them longer than I should have. I also have some nasty bruises and about 4 incisions that now itch. The doc removed the staples today and told me I was doing fine.

wow.  Doc said to leave the steri-strips on and let them fall off on their own.  Could take days, could take weeks, but don't pull them off he said.  Percocet for me works better than vicodin, but both make me nauseated.  As for the scars, have you been using mederma or just plain lotion?  I plan to use mederma once the steri strips fall off.
