Gallbladder polyps

Hello, I was diagnosed with multiple gallbladder polyps and largest one noted was 0.5 cm. I consulted two doctors and one said to remove the gallbladder and the other says not to and keep on doing ultra every six months. I'm confused what to do now. My question;

1) Is it recommended to remove gallbladder when they diagnosed with polyps in this size?
2) Removing gallbladder is there any effect to the body?

Thanks

The doctor said that my wife's gall bladder stopped functioning. She said that the ultrasound confirmed this and recommended it removed thru surgery. My wife complied and the gall bladder was removed  May of 2007. So far she really haven't gained any weight and she still eats fatty foods like hamburger stake, pork chop and chips. I'll say if the gall bladder is not causing you pain, don't remove it. but then I am not a doctor.

The older recommendation was to measure the size of the polyp(s) and if the polyp was under a certain size, the condition should be monitored and if the polyp grew, or exceeded the 'allowed' size' then the GB should be removed.

However, the latest recommendation is that if polyps are found, the GB should be removed. You may have been dealing with one 'old-line' doc and an 'updated' doc.

In some who have their GB removed, they may find they're unable to process fats the way they did before the surgery. Some docs will suggest the patient follow a low fat diet for a numer of months after the surgery and then slowly re-introduce fat into the diet.
