Gallstones,surgery or not ?

Hello! I just got back from er ,had severe upper abdominal/back pain, nausea and fever, ultrasound showed gallstones, but no blockage.Basically told me to watch my diet and see if pain goes away, the thing is with this is constant nausea I cant tolerate any food.Should I give it time, change diet and hope pain goes away or just get it out and over with?
I'm having another laparscopy soon for gyno reasons, should I just wait then and have them take it out instead of having to go back for two procedures? cant gallstones be cleared with med's?
I always thought gallstones was serious and needed prompt surgery..I'm worried about conquences of having gallbladder out, anyone I talk to still had pain with worse nausea, diet restrictions, and chronic diarrhea...is this the case with everyone? I just had my appendix out in oct'06..thought of another surgery is scary! any advice appreciated...ty!

I was diagnosed with Gallstones and my doctor told me the only thing to do is to have the surgery. Well I don't want to have surgery. I went online and I am not have the severe pain they describe. I decided to get a second opinion. My new doctor told me that most everyone has gallstones, but not everyone is affected by them. My doctor said lets rule out any other stomach condition and he put me on Nexium. I was diagnosed 21 years ago with a peptic ulcer so I did have periodic heartburn pain. I have changed my diet by lowering my fat intake by a lot. I no longer have pain. I have lost 10 pounds and I needed to loose some weight. I am not obese and I don't smoke. I am 5'6" and weigh 145. I would still like to loose some more weight. If I can avoid it I am not going to have surgery. I am also worried that it I have my Gallbladder removed I will just go crazy eating anything and gain weight again. I am going to turn 50 this year and it is going to get harder and harder to maintain my weight. Anyway go to a doctor that will tell you all of the options or get a second opinion. I know for some people the pain has escalated to the shoulder blades which is worse than I had, I only had the pain in the middle of my chest, like really bad heartburn. I have heard that drinking lots of pure natural apple juice and The Green Machine Drink, will help a lot. The Green Machine Drink has the grasses in it and other stuff which helps the Gallbladder. Anyway good luck with whatever you decide.

GET IT THE HELL OUT OF YOU THE STONES ARE THE FIRST SIGN THAT YOUR GALLBLADDER IS FAILING AND THE PAIN IS THE SECOND SIGN OF FAILURE IT IS RANDOMLY SPASMING AND WILL NOT STOP TILL THE BLADDER DIES OFF. MINE DID THAT AND I WAS IN AND OUT OF THE HOSPITOL EVERY TWO OR THREE DAYS WITH THE PAIN PRAYING FOR THEM TO REMOVE IT AND I HAD NO MEDICAL SO THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TILL I GOT MEDICAL

Hi! I am a 19 year old, slim, healthy and active vegetarian but last November, i was diagnosed with gallstones. I had woken up during the night with severe chest pain, shortness of breath, fever and vomitting. In hospital, my enyzme count for my liver was extremely high and i began to suffer from severe jaundice. The doctors were puzzled as to what was wrong with me but after an ultrasound, a large number of small gallstones showed up in my very swollen gallbladder. I was treated with antibiotics to treat the infection and after a number of days was discharged. My surgeon recommended surgery as at home, i continued to suffer from gallstone attacks.
As a result, i booked my keyhole surgery for the 8th of December last, although i was so scared, but it turned out to be the best choice i have ever made! I have no regrets whatsoever and would have the surgery again in a heartbeat. My biggest fear of the surgery had been that i would have a lot of pain after but i had very little. The evening of the 8th, i was fit to walk around, eat and felt great. It was a uncomfortable sitting up and lying down but that can be expected after all major surgery. Four days later i returned home and on the 26th of December was fit to return to work and go out clubbing!
I had my 4 weeks check-up today which went brilliantly! My scars are healed and are tiny. I am back playing sports and am returning to college soon. I would strongly recommend asking for dissolvable stitches as they are much more pleasant than getting stitches or staples removed. Also, do not lift/carry anything heavy especially the days after surgery and follow the exact instructions of your surgeon regarding changing your dressings as these reduce the risk of infection.
I honestly couldn't recommend this procedure anymore highly and sincerely hope that you have as much success with it as i have had! Good luck!

I had gallbladder removed and did not suffer any consequences after. There are no restrictions on my diet, but lowfat is of course always the best. A high fat diet will just cause you a lot of issues.
That was over 20 years ago and still ok.
Here is an article on gallbladder removal that may help.

Oh how I feel for you, your just going thru the mill.

I hope you feel better soon.  My mom had gallstones before I was born and she said it was horrific pain, she just wanted it out, she didn't care what they had to do to her.

Pretty soon they will haven taken most of your insides out so you wont have any problems lol

IF they ever take anything out on me, I'll be like ok..also take out the GB/appendix/and all the female parts...Im done having kids so lets get it all in one operation lol

Hope

Ty all for your replies,I'm ready to get the thing out than to deal with the pain.I have had digestive problems for a year and lost 100lbs rapidly (prob reason I have gallstones now)I told former pcp I think it is gallbladder/appendix but was blown off as IBS. I had a gallbladder attack 10 yrs ago after eating pizza so it must of just took time for it to dysfunction(I'm 29 yrs old)I cant stand to eat nothing, what is good diet for pain/nausea till I have surgery?
Somehow I think appendix/gallbladder are linked, both to go bad within few months is weird! Also having gyno pain/issue's on top of this...just cut me in half!! sheesh! lol...

Definitely have the surgery.  Your body is trying to fight the infection.  You don't want the infection to spread through to your liver and cause further damage to other structures.  Sorry about your recent appendix surgery, maybe it was actually both of them being inflamed with the same bacteria? Best of luck.

Look up Liver gallbladder flush online.  Or melting gallstones naturally. (I read it could take a while but it's worth it).  Change your diet if it is not healthy.

Definitely have it removed! Gallbladder pain is one thing, but stones are a definite risk.  I had mine removed when I was 29yrs of age and 5 months pregnant, with no stones, just inflammation. I am now 37 and never looked back.  I eat whatever and whenever I want, in fact my eating habits improved considerably as all the bouts of nausea and pain disappeared.  Obviously keep away from rich/fatty foods as this won't do you any good with/without a gall bladder.

Good luck and take care.
