HELP Son Vomits EVERY Night

I have taken my son to the pediatrician and he didn't find anything wrong, but my son is vomiting nearly every night. His stomach hurts and he vomits over and over until his stomach is empty. He seems to eat alright for being only 7 years old, but he is very thin. He is 46 inches tall and weighs 43 lbs. This has been going on for almost a year and I just can't take it anymore. I feel so horrible for him, I just want to know what is wrong with my baby. I am going to make an appointment for him to see a different doctor at the end of this week. Any suggestions on tests I should request or any idea what this could be??? I am becoming very concerned, I have never heard of anyone vomiting so frequently and for such a long period of time.

Thank you for the advice, it does make me feel better to hear that there is a chance this will end some day. I will bring up cyclic vomiting syndrome to the new doctor and see if he knows or thinks that could be it. I will also ask to be referred to a GI pediatric specialist if he can't figure it out. I don't know why, but I didn't think of that before. I hope it is not a psychological disorder, it seems to me that would be even more frustrating to treat. Until the past two days, I had never heard of abdominal migraines, but thank you for bringing it up, that very well may be it. Wish us luck tomorrow, hopefully we can get on the road to an actual diagnosis and a working treatment. Thank you to all!

My best friends little cousin did this also... they actually diagnosed her with a psychological disorder... I cant remember what it was, but she threw up several times a day... she did this for years and years, until they finally diagnosed her... it took about a year of going to a therapist to help and she was on medication also... I hate that i dont have much information, i just know that i know of a kid that threw up every day for years... you just know whta you hear through the grapevine when its your best friends little cousin lol... Sorry....

This sounds just like something called cyclic vomiting syndrome.  Not very many doctors know about it, but it's a very alive and frustrating illness.  You can find out more about it here:

Good luck with your son, I hope he feels better soon.

I agree with lilmsjonesy about the abdominal migraines lucy. My son actually had that. They call it CVS-Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome. My son had this for 10 yrs until he was diagnosed. It was horribly frustrating!! he would get sick especially if he got overheated or played a little extra hard. He is 14, and still gets sick at school in PE when he runs the track. He for the most part, outgrew the vomiting, and what happens is when they get older, they turn into migraines. I wish you luck! They found my sons when he had a 24 hr probe with a barium scan. They did a nissanfundoplication on him, which was where they took a piece of the top of his stomach and wrapped it around his espophagus and sewed it shut. They did that when he was 9 mths old. We literally lived in the ER. He lost 4 lbs when he was 6 mths old from all the vomiting. He had a severe case and was going to die. GOOD LUCK! YOU MAY EMAIL ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS I CAN HELP YOU WITH IN THIS NIGHTMARE!

If your son is otherwise well without fever, wt loss and lethargy, I would strongly consider a diagnosis of abdominal migraines.  You should insist on being referred to a pediatric GI specialist.  I can't recall the treatment but the few kids I have encountered with this problem do outgrow it but it may present as migraine headaches as they get older.  Good luck!
