Hemoglobin level of 11.3 in a man.

I am a 63 year old man and Just got my CBC test results back. They are as follows: RBC = 4.35, Hemoglobin = 11.3, Hematocrit = 35.2, MCV = 81, Platelet Count = 327. Last year all was normal. Are these numbers bad, and do they warrent doing a endoscopy to check for stomach bleeding. I would have thought the doctor would have done stool samples first.

Endoscopic evaluation is appropriate. When was your last colonoscopy?

You don't need to worry about the gagging issue. Between the sedation and the use of topical anesthetics in your throat this should not be an issue. Both upper and lower exams would be indicated.

I forgot to mention that my last colonoscopy was clean. No polyps. I was told I didn't have to do another for 10 years. Although I understand this an exception.

Thank you for your response doctor. My last colonoscopy was in 2006. My doctor did say I should have at least an endoscopy. I am reluctant to have the endoscopy because I gag brushing my teeth.

Sorry. I didn't know I had posted to that topic. I thought I selected hemoglobin and men. Thank you for letting me know. I believe it was moved so maybe I will get some responses. Thank you.

Greetings, sorry no one is responding to your question. If you do not happen to have Hepatitis C you might want to re-post your question here:
