Hida scan normal but gallbladder sludge present

I had a hida scan this week and the results were normal, as well as the CT scan; however, the ultrasound showed sludge.  Now the GI and PCP are recommending surgery because the sludge will eventually turn into stones, but the hida scan is normal, so are there alternatives to surgery.  I don't want to take the gallbladder out unnecessarily. How can the hida scan be normal and there still be so much pain? Also, now i have heartburn and acid reflux that is supposedly unrelated to the gall bladder issue.
