High Somatostatin; Large Blood Vessel in Pancreas

Blood test revealed high levels of somatostatin.  Doctor sent me for an octreoscan, which came back negative for a neuroactive tumor.  Doctor then sent me for an abdominal MRI which revealed a large blood vessel in the pancreas.  Recommends repeating the MRI in 6-12 months.  What does all of this mean?  Why would a blood vessel be large or enlarged?  Why would the level of somatostatin in my blood be high if there is no tumor?  I can't seem to get any straight answers!

I have a high Somatostatin, zero TSH, low T4 and low T3 levels.  I am becoming diabetic, and my bowels simply do not move without a stimulant laxative.  Is all this related?  My Octreotide scan was negative.  What could be causing all these symptoms?  Have you discovered anything new?

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  That is a very specialized question you are asking.  What symptoms were you having that caused your doctor to do these tests?  Often a finding of large blood vessels is a benign finding.
