I only have a bowel movement every 4 or 5 days!!

I have severe constipation and have a very hard time moving my bowels. When I eventually do  move them I get a really bad pain in my rectum area. I also have to force it out by pushing and straining myself. I am worried because I bleed sometime(most of the time) from my rectum. I often use the breathing techniques that I learned in Lamaze class to make it more comfortable. I have been bloated lately, sometimes I look like I am 6 months pregnant, and I had a tubal 2 years ago so I know that I am not.....

I've always had issues with this, but if I eat enough fiber I'm generally okay.  I try to get 30-40 grams per day....a natural supplement such as Metamucil helps me quite a bit.  There is also some whole grain bread I use which has 6 grams per slice...just check the labels.  Try to stay away from white flour foods which will fill you up, but have virtually no fiber. As mentioned, read the labels of foods and do a search online for high fiber foods.

you might want to try a natural supplement called "triphala"  it works wonders and is available at most vitamin shops....   vegatarians take
it to get the fiber they need...     try it for a month and you will be amazed... no bloating.. pain....

google it and read up!

Fiber is the way to go. Aim to get at least 30 grams a day in your diet. It's very hard to do so you need to read labels and stop eating things that don't have a decent amount of fiber in them. I was like you, I only had a BM every 4-5 days. Then I got thyroid cancer and my body got so messed up and I wasn't going at all.  I started slowly adding fiber....I buy Double Fiber whole wheat bread, I put Benefiber in my water, I eat Fiber One Bars for snacks and for the first time in my life I'm going regularly.  It will make you gassy at first so start adding it slowly. But after a few days you will notice a huge difference.

May want to talk to your doctor about getting on a high fiber diet. I to have problems with not being regular and they have put me on a high fiber diet. May want to also try Fibercon. A stool softner helps as well. I am taking Fibercon and a stool softner and have started a high fiber diet, so far it's working. Hope this helps.
