I smell bad all the time. Help!!?

Hello everybody,

I have just encountered this site and felt a little bit confident after knowing that I am not alone, and people have found ways to their solutions. I hope I will solve my problem too.

I am 23 year old female. I've been dealing with this for 2 years now and still I haven't found a solution.

I release gas all the time, I don't smell it but all people around me sniff really hard or scratch their face.  So it is obvious to me that the gas I release smells. Not only that, my breath also stinks and because your ears, nose and mouth are connected, you can smell it with my mouth closed. I brush my teeth once sometimes twice a day and regardless of how good I brush and how long I brush, my breath stinks. So people are thinking that I am a nasty girl who do not brush and fart always.

My social life is non-existent. I was emotionally forced to stop going to school and working due to this happening to me.

I went to my family doctor and had a series of tests done. I took an allergy test and found out I am allergic to shrimp and another test to see if I had either Crohn's or Celiac disease which came back negative. So the doc told me I have IBS and gave me a 60-day prescription of Bentyl and Zoloft (did not work). About 5-6 months later, I went back to get a referral to see a Gastroenterologist. That next week, I had a ultra scan (routine abdomen) done and there was a lot of gas. The doctor later told me I had acid reflux and gave me some sample pills of Prilosec OTC and a list of things to add to my diet (fiber, fruits etc) They all hear to me but consider it to not being serious, they do only some routine tests like blood test and ultra scan. But none of them helped me. I'm so tired of living like I can't go anywhere or do anything because of what's going on. In about another 2 weeks, I will be going to yet another specialist. Do you think I should get a colonoscopy done? I would like to have an oral exam done to actually see what's going on because there's obviously a problem.

symptoms and observations:

I feel that I release more gas when I sit.
I always have an urge to push like there's a lot of pressure.
I release foul smelling gas whether I eat or starve.
I have wetness near my anal region.
My breath also smells bad.

I don't know what to do now.

Can anybody throw some light on my problem?

Thank you very much in advance.

I hope we all will find some solution to this life ruining problem.

There is a possibility that it might be related to an uncommon genetic disorder - one that produces a 'whole-body' odor that can be described in a variety of ways. Some think it smells 'fishy' while others describe it differently. It's known clinically as trimethylaminuria and is caused by excessive amounts of the compound trimethylamine (TMA) within the body. TMA is produced with digestion of foods rich in choline -- including saltwater fish, eggs, liver and certain legumes, like soy and kidney beans.
A defect in a gene hinders the body's ability to metabolize TMA into odor-free compounds.

There's a group at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philly that has studied it and I believe they know more about it than many. But docs are now slowly learning about it. You might want to check into the subject and see if it might be what you're experiencing.

Using pills and drugs will only mask the problem. It will not fix the original problem, but will add more because of the side effects of the things you are putting in you body. I used to smell bad all the time, breath, skin, was farting often, especially when I was around people or in enclosed places. I suffered from daily headache syndrome, my life was a nightmare. First figure out, when and why do you have symptoms. Bacterias provoke bad odors, so get rids of bacterias by detoxing your body, and I am not talking about pills, powders or magic potions, again do not put more toxins in your body. Go through an elimination diet and let your body do the job it was designed to do. I found out that, for me, any type of rice makes me bloated, some more than others, so I replaced them with Quinoa. Beans really made me gassy, all kinds, so I stop eating them, some cheeses gave me headaches. I could not stop eating them because I am addicted, that something I found out last week. I could eliminated all the thibgs that made me feel bad from my daily food intake, but I have been struggling with cheese, so I heard a about cheese addiction. I was eating about a pound of cheese in a weekly basis. Now Im down to  2-4  oz a week. Thats a working in progress for me, Anyhow, I eat only one kind that I found does not make me feel bad and I eat it sporadically. I love tomatoes, but had them elimininated of my meals because it made me gassy, then someone told me that if I take the skin off, the symptoms will not be as bad, and they were right, my symptoms were not as bad, but I was still gassy. I found out that if I cook them,  in other words do not eat it raw, I wont experience any symptoms. I also suffer from low iron levels, and everybody was telling me to eat pasta products, cheese, and other stuffs with high iron, I opted for dark green leaves vegetables. I eat red meat, clean, high quality, lean. Dont like chicken because I can taste the fat in it even if I dont physically see it, I eat lot of eggs, 2 for breakfast daily, and no, my cholesterol is not high because I eat a lot of nuts (all kinds) and salmon that naturally lower cholesterol. I stop eating processed foods and do not use any sauces in my meals. It was difficult at first because we are used to use a lot of spices and sauces in everything we eat, but those are more toxins or additional calories I do not need. Now, my taste buds are more refined. I have been eating clean and healthy for about 6 months now and I started cooking at home. Recently, I went to my favorite restaurant for my fav meal and it tastes aweful. I could taste the oil they put in the dish, the sauce, which I loved so much, and it tastes bland and chewy and on top of that, made me gassy and my stomach felt upset, which was a feeling I though for years to be normal. I just got the weekly specials from my local supermarket and they were a bunch of processed foods and candies and at the bottom they were drugs to treat stomach problems. so ironic!

Colonic irrigation does a lot of good however, I have the same problem, the best cure (one which works) appears to be cholorophyllin/charcoal tablets, although chlorophyllin by itself does a lot of good too. The smell does actually disappear. It's an "internal deodorant" and some people even apply it externally, if you look it up you will find people saying regular usage will actually completely get rid of gross morning breath, which is amazing.

The problem for me is that 2 chlorophyllin tablets a day appears to constipate me, this is fine for 1-2 days but afterwards you're of course going to feel really sick. Which in turn requires drastic measures to de-constipate oneself (usually in order 1. sodium bicarb drinks (your standard laxative ingredient) 2. colonic irrigation). I also have to cut down on the tablets, which makes the smell re-appear naturally.

However, I'm sharing this because I hear that constipation is a rare side effect with the chlorophyllin tablets. If there's any almost-instant cure that should work, this ought to be it.

In my case, there appears to be some kind of minor rectal prolapse and perhaps a mild case of false intestinal blockage. My last dose of (chloro) pills worked better when I took some sodium bicarb to soften my stools, but going to try bisacodyl, pico sulfate and possibly cascara as these actually stimulate your LARGE intestine to do "mass movements". Which could possibly help my possible pseudo-blockage, because it seems to be linked to my state of mind whether I can go to the toilet or not.

I have had the same issue for several years. I am unable to work due to this problem only some people can smell it. It does not happen around my family. I am on Ativan 3x per day. I also use Activated Charcoal, Candida Yeast pills, and Mint Liquid Chlorophyll it helps tremendously. I still have few incidents, but still have not ventured out to work to see if this will help me! It is an anxiety problem and IBS causing the issue and Doctors do not understand when you tell them! They look at you like you have a mental condition. Its even hard for friends and family to understand!

I know this problem all to well.
Like a few of you I have also suffered with this problem for about 14 years. At first I also thought that I was the only one. Going anywhere was such a hassle. I quit school, I had no idea how I would work.
I could not leave the house without going through this. I also had thoughts of suicide.
And it only happened when I was somewhere that I did not feel comfortable and around ppl I did not know or feel comfortable enough. At home around my parents it never happened.
So I knew it was all in my head. It was the social anxiety and the fear and idea of chronic flatulence in beaded in my mind that made me feel this way.
For years I begged for a solution. I searched and searched to find nothing.
But one miraculous day 4 years ago I did find something that helped me. Something that changed my life.
Because for the next 3 years I was able to live my life again.
I found the prescriptive drug called alprazolam it's genetic name Xanax.
This is what will help u all calm ur mind of that constant worry of ur problem.
I guarantee this 100% you will get ur life back and live ur life again.
The unfortunate part of this is that this medication is not easy to get. Doctors don't like to prescribe it much.
It's messed up because we all share this anxiety and this medication would help all of us.
I no longer can get this medication. If anyone one of u can get this that I would say give it a try. What do u have to lose? Also Valium and klonopin work too.
Besides medication I know the answer is to calm ur mind. I've tried this for years with no successes.
I hope this helps.

I too like many of you have had this problem since puberty. I’m now 24 years old and too scared to go to college, or to work at one place for too long. My symptoms are;

Bloating after meals
Bad breath
Sulphurous wind
Body odour that I can’t detect (although everyone else can)
Poor sleeping pattern (due to discomfort from bloating mainly)
Anxiety and depression

This is a devastating illness and it really gets on my nerves on these forums when people say things like “just hold your head up high” (Although no-one has said it on his forum thank god). Our best chance to get through this and live a real life is to share knowledge with each other.

So here are some things that I have noticed over the years;

Rice causes no foul flatulence (and therefore I assume no body odour) in me
Bread and other wheat based produce causes all the symptoms mentioned above
As does caffeine, nuts, potatoes, pickles, eggs and pretty much nearly everything else
You cannot live off rice alone as there are too few calories in it.
Charcoal tablets did nothing for me.
Various IBS medications did nothing for me
Doctors will assume you are just paranoid
Symptoms are much worse when I am nervous

I believe my smell comes in strong “waves” as opposed to just smelling bad all day
That’s all I can think of, like most of you on here I’ve tried about 20 different diets to no avail. My next one is going to be a banana diet traditionally used to treat celiac disease. My hopes aren’t high but who knows eh?

anyway good luck to anyone out there trying a new remedy and hope you hit the right one soon

Hi again, you know the Charcoal Capsules I just mentioned  you can purchase them in any Rite Aid, or on line from Puritan's Price.com  the name of the capsules is Activated Charcoal Capsules 260 mg. 4 gr. recommended dosage is 2 capsules after meals.  I use them and I swear by them.  If you go on the internet and research charcoal capsules, you will find out all the benefits of this natureal thing.  They say if you were ever stuck on a deserted island alone all you would need is a bottle of Activated Charcoal to keep you well.  It is really an amazing thing.  Hope you get well soon, you're a young girl and should not be stinky.  And if you've read my previous advice, please keep away from the allergic food and also from beans, if you eat beans, or sour crout alot, keep off it as it makes gas.  You can also take CITRUCEL which will keep you regular so that you have good bowel movements.  Sometimes constipation will give you the symptoms you've described.  Citrucel is over the counter also.  And it works very well too.

If you've had tests and nothing can be found, perhaps you should stop eating shrimp, for sure stop eating shrimp and shell fish because you have an allergy to it and it will cause havoc within your body.  Also if you drink alot of soda, stop because it has gas.  Also try taking an over the counter charcoal capsule.  Take one capsule prior to eating and one right after you finish eating.  The charcoal kills any and all toxins in the digestive tract and you will not feel the gas.  Also if you have a lot of toxins in your intestents from the allergic foods the charcoal will eliminate them in time but you  have to be patient and continue taking the charcoal regularly.  Also brush your teeth twice a day, and shower also.  If you say as you do that you have anal leakage, you must shower, or use wipes at all times.
Cleanliness is next to godliness as you know.  Keep your body clean.  Use good soap, deoderants and always have wipes handy so you can clean your privates.  Hope this will help you.

Hey inner Beauty,
You will get well soon,

You could also use the Maya clinic symptoms checker to see if the condition can lead you to some other possible conditions, that when you see your doctor, you will have an array of options to check with your doc. just visit
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/symptom-checker.

By the way,  developed a very strong halitosis too and I have been to specialists several times but seems they have linked mine to chronic sinusitis, which is also linked to GERD and so at times these are issues that might require some consistent controlling and soon you will be all fine.

all the best with your appointment

I agree with both of the above comments. Here in the UK we do have specialists who deal with this and with the treatment, the results have been very good.

The smell is like a sulfur, stale, feces smell. I believe it's worse when I'm nervous or after I eat.
